Hello everyone, im Marston VC a director at everyone's favorite corp STB. The topic this thread concerns itself with today is the longevity of this game based off the recent release. Longevity (in my opinion) is defined by these following statements.
Replay-ability: Players (especially hardcore ones) like replay-ability in games (especially ones like this) because when their playing a game like this for a long time they don't want to get bored..... especially after heavy investments have been made into via.... idk merc packs Dust 514 has no endgame in sight. With one Racial suit statistically taking about 1.5 months to fully spec into, the game (skill progression wise) should last a long time. That being said, the game also has a good future development wise too. CCP has promised continued add ons for the foreseeable future and too gives the game replay-ability just because new features will continue to get added. So in this sense, DUST 514 is passing the mark, but this is where that ends.
Streamlining: Streamlining can mean a lot of different things. But for the sake of my argument ill define streamlining as "ease of new players getting into the game and sticking with it." DUST 514 takes place in a HUGE universe, and as a result it will require thousands, possibly HUNDREDS of thousands of players to fulfill all the possible battles that could be taking place at one time. However when you look at the loading screen it normally hovers around 4000 players logged in. (check out that nifty little feature next time you load up the game). This is an OPEN BETA with over 1,000,000 characters created, yet the daily player rate is around 4,000....... that's a HUGE mortality rate. Even if you round that number to 10,000 its still a 99% mortality rate. Granted a lot of people have alt characters but not every person has over 10.....
So what does this mean??? It means A.) the game is bad, B.) the game is hard to play, or C.) Both.
In my opinion Dust 514 is NOT a bad game, however it is extraordinarily hard to get into and just to play in general. ESPECIALLY in the current patch. Last build (chromosome) it was possible to get into this game with a little bit of grinding. Starting off with 500k SP allowed a player to get a decent suit with a decent weapon which gave them the opportunity to then kill other players on the field. ON occasion, A newbie would be able to kill a veteran if the newbie is skillful enough.
Now we look at the Uprising build....... its amazing how hard it is to kill people. EVERYTHING has been nerfed so hard that it literally takes entire clips to kill somebody if they have half decent strafing skills. There are only TWO viable weapons that I see people consistently use effectively now and those are the SHOTGUN and TACT RIFLE. The reason these guns work is because unlike almost every other weapon in the game, they both put out sooooo much up front damage that its still possible (like in the old build) to drop somebody in less then 10 seconds.
Honestly..... im a veteran player and ive been playing this game since June...... the gun game in the current build is almost as bad as what it was like in June. Hit detection has cropped back up as an issue, and overall the controls feel sluggish at best. Honestly..... its not the nerfs that made things so difficult.... its the fact that its soooo hard to hit people in general that makes this game so frustrating now. I realize that this game is an MMOFPS and that its not a "twitch shooter" but its ridiculous how slow things are now. So how do we fix this??
Conclusion: This game would be FAR more entertaining if players could hit their targets and not get frustrated over the fact that the only weapon that reliably kills is the tact AR/ shotgun. We fix that by either upping the sensitivity, increasing the range, upping every guns damage, or some combination of the last three options across the board. It needs to be possible for new players to compete with older players, and against other players in general. So if CCP were to fix the clunky feeling I get now with the controls...... I think that alone would improve the game drastically. EVEN if CCP brought back the controls to how they were Pre-uprising I think that would be good enough. But yeah..... overall this build was a great step forward, theres just some MAJOR gameplay issues that are holding it back.
Soooooo what do you guys think??? What is your major gripe with the current build?? Do you have any? what are its strong points in your opinion? discuss |
