I am a logibro. I am not an assault player. I thoroughly enjoy supporting my team with repairs and ammo. Thought I'd get that out of the way so you all don't think I'm hating on logistics players.
When a limit had been placed on the War Points gained from triage, I was not very happy and did not understand why it happened. When I asked, I was told that a certain corp had been exploiting the mechanic in order to gain WP and call in many, many precision strikes per match. While I understood the reasoning for it, I still didn't like it because, being a logistics player, I was missing out on a lot of WP/SP that I had grown accustomed to.
My request, as the title states, is that players do not receive War Points for doing support actions such as triage and supplying ammo, BUT they do receive Skill Points for these support actions.
With this new system in effect and the triage limit removed, logistics players can be rewarded with SP for doing what they enjoy and their skills can't be exploited for WP that lead to an over use of Orbitals.
So now the logistics players wont be as effective in gaining WP towards an Orbital for their squad? Yes and no. While they wont directly effect the WP, they can now set their priorities on what logistics is made for: supporting their killers. If you are able to keep your assault players alive longer and well stocked then they can be more effective in killing the enemy and gaining WP.
Logistics keeps team clone count up, assault brings enemy clone count down.
If people really don't like having zero WP gained, another option could be giving 5 or 10 WP for every Triage done. This may still keep people from trying to exploit the repair tool and allow the logibro to help towards an Orbital.

What don't you people understand about this? Support actions will still get Skill Points, they just wont get War Points. It's really not a hard concept guys.. This way people who focus on logistics will still gain SP to buy skills and it wont be exploited to get a handful of orbitals per match.
Maybe I need to clarify that when I say Logistics, I mean SUPPORT. I don't mean an assault guy using a logistics suit, I mean someone doing support actions like revives, repairs, and ammo. |

+1 for originality, but I'm afraid I can't agree as the WP is how you get SP. How do you propose determining how much SP each logi activity awards? This is why I don't agree as I don't think there is a clear way to give SP based on performance without involving WP. Let me know if you come up with a way to do thi.
They still gain the SP that they would have gotten for the amount of WP received, but the WP aren't applied to the team/squad during the match. If people are that concerned about leaderboard placement, the WP could be applied after the match is finished. |

Quote:If you're getting OB spammed, the problem isn't logis getting WP, its the 6-man squads and not increasing the OB requirement.
I'm not getting spammed by OB. Before the triage limit corps were exploiting the repair tool to get WP, leading to OB spams.
Quote: So then logis would exploit the system to gain mad amounts of SP..?
If someone is doing support work, shouldn't they get rewarded for it? Assault people get SP for kills, Logi gets SP for support. If it leads to an over abundance of SP then yeah, CCP would have to dial down the count. What I'm requesting is that Support guys get benefits for what they're made to do without breaking the game. |

The reward you get from being a logibro is the biggest pat on the back from the proto suit you just saved for someone. If you're in it for the SP or something, best find a different profession, because this one isn't for you.
Really? This is a game, you need to be compensated for all of your actions. While it is fun and perhaps fulfilling to support your team, it gets pretty old when you stop getting Triage points after repping one guy. |

My argument is that logistics get's paid the most for the risks incurred. That is to say that a good logistics isn't worried about his K/D ration, but rather plays for the team. This naturally means that his K/D ratio is abysmal due to the fact that a good logistics is dong his job 100% of the time. This in turn means the only time a logistics should be playing the role of a shooter is when he absolutely needs to (when the situation is so desperate that he has to shoot or risk death). If the logistics has to play a shooter role it is because he either doesn't understand his role and how to play it well, the team is either in the wrong place at the wrong time, has bitten off more than it can chew or that team is at the tip of the spear. Therefore CCP has given the logistics a number of ways to make SP and ISK in order to make up for the added sacrifice of a nasty looking K/D ratio.
I think the WP awarded for a logistics doing his job is not unreasonable, a team a logistics does not make. The orbitals are earned by the team, not the logistics alone.
You expect a "good" logi to have an abysmal KDR? When proto fits cost +150,000 ISK for ONE fit and they don't get much SP or ISK reward, I'd say you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.
Quote:This would result in an "uncoupling" of SP gain from WP that would be an awkward precedent. So now do snipers receive extra SP but no WP every time they 'ping' a target that results in a kill? Do I get SP but no WP for calling in an LAV that my team hops into? It's just... not ideal. I would rather have the amount per tick reduced and have it be constant. Say, 5-10 WP per tick healed or something like that.
Not sure how you think it would be "awkward". Seriously, it's such an easy concept that people probably wouldn't even notice.
Not "ideal"? What you're saying is pure ridiculousness and not even relatable to the topic. |

I logi happily with no expectations for someone else to pick me up or a fatter check. You don't logi for stuff. You logi to be helpful. EDIT: It's not about the individual. It's about the team.
Idk what white horse you think you rode in on, but please stop. If you're playing a corporation match then yes, sacrifice your best gear to keep your team alive and win, but when you're in a public match then you are not playing "to be helpful". You're playing to increase your ISK and SP.
Maybe YOU don't, but the rest of the support players aren't as selfless as you are, oh gracious one. |

Draco Cerberus wrote:Some matches the triage WP gain limit kicks in and kills my WP gain, SP gain and makes me wonder if my equipment is being used or is destroyed. If anything I would say the triage limit should be removed. It does no good to give a reward then take it away because someone is exceptionally good at using the mechanic of the game.
LogiBros are the backbone of any good squad. I have yet to play a match this build where someone didn't tell me that they need ammo or reps or both. If you look into the SP needed to skill the modules that provide those things it will be apparent that it is a massive undertaking to skill into a Logistics role and rewards should be commensurate with the task.
I completely agree with this, but if the limit was removed I feel that it would get out of hand.
I'm done responding to this thread now. Too many ignorant trolls to have an actual discussion about a fairly simple idea. If you people don't like my suggestion, why is it so hard to reply with intelligent feedback? Or easier still, just move on to another thread. I was really hoping those active in the Dust forums would have a bit better class then the average shooter type or forum troll.. |
