So here is an idea of mine to thin out the amount of AFK boosters.
Have a system that can detect player movement and player K/D and WP stats in a game. If after a certain amount of time (let's just say three minutes) that the system detects zero player movement, that player is ejected from the game freeing up a spot for a new player. Now for the K/D and WP stat the time before ejection would be a bit longer (let's say six minutes), but if the system detects movement (someone trying to counteract the movement system) but detects no kills, deaths, or even warpoints earned (unless you're terribad, you should have SOMETHING), after that six minutes the player in question is ejected from the match.
Now for Active SP.
I know I'm going to get roasted for this BUT imo the amount of active SP earned needs to be upped just a tad. Without an active booster the average payout seems to be between 4k and 7k. With a booster it looks to be around 6k - 13k.
As an example I believe whatever your race is assault IV takes ~800K SP. At that rate of no active booster getting 800K SP from 0SP would take between 200 and 115 games, and with active boosters would take 134 and 62 matches. Now I understand that CCP doesn't want people reaching endgame too quickly, but 200 games of grind (if you ever got to 0SP) would be BRUTAL. I'm open to debate on this active SP thought so feel free to flame away or post ideas. |

Until CCP can implement a rolling SP cap so people arent obligated to play each week, the AFK system should stay.
Implement rolling SP cap so I can take 2-3 weeks off? Done get rid of AFKing, no problems.
Now for active SP... you're forgetting about passive SP.
Also... The high end assault suits are meant to be high cost investments as well, as they are a 'specialty' item. You don't need an assault suit to play this game, the medium frame suits are just fine.
Now for logi suits... well they need a type II basic frame logi variant badly, thats another story. |

Yeah perhaps, but then they could just shoot a friendly to deal "damage," but it could work possibly.

Two people will spawn on the MCC... and dance for a while. Fire a round, throw a hive. Now they've both moved and have WP.
I agree there needs to be something done about this, however I don't think punishing people who may be actually trying and are just terrible is the way to go. |

That's just it, the system I've thought of would unfortunately punish someone who may be terrible or just learning...currently trying to think of other ideas. |

This was my idea:
At the end of every game before you can go back to quarters the scores of your teammates are displayed and you have to give them either an upvote or downvote (for lack of better terms). If any person on the team receives an aggregate value of (random number here) -4 (10 down, 6 up) or any number determined by ccp (with community input) that player's score, wp, and sp for the match for ccp to review. If ccp starts seeing the same players over and over again they can start negating or removing their ill-gotten sp. It may alsi help catch boosters and such. |

Changing where SP is earned won't stop AFKers. They'll just move to a hideyhole just inside the safe zone and continue to AFK, and things will be no better. The problem with AFKers isn't where they sit, it's that they don't add to their team, and take up the place of someone who could be adding.
Looking at this, it makes you realize that when you're winning, AFKers aren't a problem. And that seems to be borne out by the forums. I haven't yet seen a post along the lines of, "Yeah, we were just stomping this one group, but there were these two jerks sitting in the MCC just doing nothing." If anything, an AFKer on a winning team is actually *helping* the game by levelling it out some and making it more interesting for the rest of the players.
Knowing this, we know that we only have to deal with AFKers on the losing team.
Now, what else do we know about AFKers? Well, we know they're there for the time-based SP they get. We also know, however, that if we eliminate that, we're going to end up hurting the new players who don't know the maps well enough to be able to get to anything to hack it, and don't have the gear or skills to be able to kill anything before getting fried. So we need something to replace it. Something that AFKers can't get very easily, but that new people do.
Something like deaths.
So.. modifications as follows:
Time based SP gain is eliminated. First, each characters WP is viewed as a percentage of the total WP earned by the team. To that percentage, we add the number of deaths that the person suffered, which, to aid new players, is multiplied by a constant based on their level. Say x/n where x is the constant and n is their current meta level, with the goal of setting x in such a way that most new players gain roughly what they gain now.
SP that would normally be awarded for the match is then multiplied by that percentage.
AFKers, typically with both low WP and low deaths would receive extremely little. New players would receive something.. if the constant was adjusted correctly, probably close to what they get today. Experienced players would probably end up receiving less if they're on the losing side, thus giving added incentive to win.
In addition, even if a team was red-lined, making deaths mean something means there's still a reason to keep trying.

B Team, the problem with that means that someone who was doing quite well (say pulling in 2k+ WP) and not dying is getting far less than someone doing decently well (say 1,100) but dies all the time. What is to stop the person getting the most War Points from just dying over and over to get the highest SP possible? It becomes the same (flawed) logic that AFK has now: "I need to do this (AFK or Death Farming) in order to stay competitive with other people that do it."
Sadly, there is no great way to fix the AFK system. 1. Flipping the gains to 1 Second = 1 SP and 1 WP = 5 SP means that pulling 1,000 WP (which is not too difficult to do) suddenly gets you from 2,200 SP or so to 5,500+. New players are royally hosed. 2. No points in the Redline means valuable Rail Snipers (like those that kill off enemy Tanks and guard multiple points) are getting nothing for their contribution. (Yes, I think that Rail Sniping is lame but some of them are very valuable to your team. Fix Redline still.) Plus people just go into a hidyhole anyway. 3. Automatic boot for not moving/doing any action is counter by putting the controller upside down so you run into a wall constantly. 4. Vote Kick System means that people would want to kick the guy going 0/8 because they are a new player.
It is an easy problem that is annoying to fix. |

Absolutely Agree. This solves the problems of redline snipers we can't kill. Solves the problem of AFK'ers in the MCC and solves the problem of people trying to go around AFKing by constantly having to run out of the redzone to go AFK (of which they can be killed!)

Implement rolling SP cap so I can take 2-3 weeks off? Done get rid of AFKing, no problems. Honestly, this one feature would cut on a lot of AFK players. A major reason a lot of people have been sitting in the MCC for a while is because they want to keep up in SP, but are worn out and tired of having to do a weekly grind. In EVE, all you have to do is log on for a minute or two, set up your que, go about your business, and log back on in a few days/weeks/a month and reset the que with more skills. However in DUST you have to actively earn the majority of your SP by playing instant games, and with the amount of SP the skills are taking now...well it's starting to turn into even more of a job than it was before. Having a rollover system would let us focus more on enjoying the game than keeping up with the weekly grind...
As for removing WP gains in the redline, what if the other team happens to be redlined? Granted I haven't seen it much in this build, but if it happens you're essentially further punishing the players. Not only are they getting stomped, but they're being denied any actual gains from being rolled over. That's just insult to injury. |

Three things about this. First, this is specifically what the constant/meta-level multiplier is for. As a person gets more skilled, so is able to get more WP, the value of deaths drops off.
Second, as we look at WP as a percentage, somebody who does really well, 2200 WP or whatever is probably getting about what.. 30% of the win points? So someone doing decent at 1100, has only gotten 15% of the WP.. so for these two to equal out, the 1100 guy would have to have died 15 times -- or most likely more than that depending on the multiplier. I suggest that someone who dies 15 times in a match is unlikely to have gained 1100 WP unless they were doing something absolutely exceptional and risky -- which should be rewarded.
Finally, I accept that the system may lead to some death farming, but then at least you've got swarms of guys running out into the field and distracting the enemy. Use'em as meat-shielding if nothing else. |
