They were thinking that no noob is going to Download this game, then join a match, and get trashed by a squad of the pink fluffies, or imperfects etc. then say "wow this is a game I want to invest some time, and possibly some money." So someone at CCP decided that across the board nerfs was the way they were going to go, to try and solve this problem.
Maybe, if the nerfs were intelligent and fair across the board, it might of helped a little, but they weren't. Even if they were, that was never going to fix your problem.
You know what simple solution would of helped noobs get used to the game even though they had little skill points? Noob friendly, game modes. Like these I have listed below
- STARTER SUITS ONLY. An Ambush, Skirmish, & OMS game mode where you can only use starter suit fits.
- GAMES where dropsuits can only cost a maximum of 5,000 ISK (same as above with a dropsuit price cap, no vehicles but the starter lav)
- Ambush, Skirmish, & OMS where only people with less than 1-2 mil SP can join.
- DOGFIGHTS Basic Assault Dropships provided, (low hp, basic repairer/booster) No infantry. Maybe gunners, maybe not.
- TANK BATTLES Basic tanks provided same as above.
Just a few off the top of my head. These game variants would get new people interested in the game, be good training, and let them skill up. Some would also be fun for old players who want to do something different then the same old 2.5 game modes currently available. (Soon to be a full 3.0) These should be relevantly easy to program since you are just modifying existing game modes, and using the same maps. |

You need to understand that this sort of stuff isn't easy to code in to a game, you can't just click a button and POOF, starter suits only game modes.
Actually changing existing gamemodes to follow certain basic rules, is pretty easy. I used to make custom game modes for Modern Warfare 1&2. No it's Not press a button easy, but easier than making an assault dropship, and easier than changing the sight of the Lazer Rifle, to the horrible thing that it has now. |
