I'm a bit overwhelmed by the different lines of dropsuits and their varied stats and slots so I'm not quite sure how to handle them especially since there's an investment involved as you move up the quality of suits.
At what point should you stop using the default drop suits and move on to a new model? Is it worth moving onto the other militia model suits or straight onto the standard model suits?
What line of dropsuits/setup should I look into if I'm thinking of just a basic run/gun assault kind of play? |

You should keep trying out all the militia variants until you figure out what works for you. Do not spend a single point in dropsuits until you are sure that is what you absolutely want. Once you do pick your line of suits, work on module skills that take your suit to the limits of it's CPU and PG threshold. Then play some matches using exclusively that suit until you can become profitable with it. At that point you are then ready to move up to the next tier in your line of suit and repeat the process.
As far as what line of suits you should go with, if you want to be more run and gun you should stick with medium frames. All medium frames are good for this type of gameplay, but here is my personal opinion on where the 4 differ.
Gallente - The extra armor makes it better for more of a defensive role. Still run and gun, but generally staying within the territory of one base. Caldari - The extra shields make it better for more point-to-point quick combat, but not so good for sustained fire fights. Minmatar - Less total hitpoints but faster than the rest, ideal for a strictly offensive role. Amarr - Everything about Amarr is balanced between the rest as far as medium suits go. It can't do one thing better than the rest, but it does everything well. |

For run n gun? I use minmatar. Light for closing in with SMG + Pistol combo, Medium for using Lazors + SMG. Though for run n gun you might wanna try AR. As OP as it is... I refuse to use it. ABSOLUTELY NOT. If you wanna use it though, power to ya. |

Run and gun would probably be caldari with extenders and regulators.
Caldari have more high then low slots and gallente have more low.
I personally run Gallente assault, and I recommend it. |

(Light Frame) Scouts Suits - Front line in your face suits, thin armor and shields. Weapons of choice; shotgun, nova-knives, AR, sniper rifle.
(Medium Frame) Assault Suits - The most popular suit in the game, they are more sturdy than scout suits but slower. Any light weapon will do, pick a role with a weapon your good at specialize in it and make it your own death dealer.
(Medium Frame) Logistics Suits - Similar to the Assault suits but does not have a side arm(except the Amar suit which does have a side arm at later levels), they make up for this in having up to 4 equipment slots. This makes them the medics/support/healers of the game. This is my suit and I enjoy the role I play my KDR is 0.6 but I support my team and keep them in the fight the entire game, if your looking at score boards I generally come out in the top 5 because of support points. Weapons; I use a Mass Driver to flush enemies out of cover and into the welcoming arms of my teammates who will happily kill you, just about any other weapon will do depending on how you set up your logi suit.
(Heavy Frame) Heavy suits - Lots of armor or shields depending on which suit you go with, but you are quite slow. Access to heavy weapons means you can pick the Heavy Machine Gun(anti personnel) or Forge gun(anti armor), you still have access to light weapons and side arms so heavies pick what your good at and use your heavy (fat) suit to knock every one down that comes at you.
Hope this break down helps, there are things I have missed/omitted for simplicity good luck in your time as a merc! |
