Now that uprising has been released it seems as though a great number of the player base is leaving the game ( they will probs return). Also this game surely cannot succeed with a player base under 5000.
Now I hope that the release day brings in a nice amount of new players and thing pick up, also this is an MMO so that games community could grow overtime.
What are your opinions? Is the game dead or on its way to the grave before it even begun. |

Well you kinda need to advertise the game for it to grow, 5000 players for a game that is rarely spoken of isn't all that bad. If CCP invested a bit of money on advertising this game would grow. Honestly the way match ups work its really hard to notice that there is only 5000 people playing at all times compared to other games like COD that the match ups go null and fail, or sometimes it takes 2 minutes to play a match that most people do not enjoy or just do not play, like the party games in Black Ops; this game is very fast at getting you into the battlefield.
Offtopic: If they really wanna make a lot of money they should sell a respec. :) |

5000 isn't bad for a committed group of Dust players but for business it is bad. They need to grow and being quiet about release sounds like terrible business logic to me. |

They need to add something to their store that is actually worth buying, and with those profits advertise the game and have more people buy this thing, also they need to figure out how to port this to the PS4 if they expect any longevity. |

That's 5000 player's on at any given time that's a very health number as it's all day. There seems to because huge misunderstanding on what a health game looks like proabaly caused by the like of bf3 and cod and halo which are market exceptions. The gamer communty seems very poorly informed of their own hobby a game is only dead once u core gameplay breaks due to lack of players. This has not happend nor is dust heading that way given it ran happly with just a few 100 a few months back |

Game is dead when you try to join a match and you have to wait 5 minutes before actually entering a lobby. Although there are a decent amount of people leaving the game because of SP mistakes. Specially old school tank drivers. |

Everyone should also keep in mind that this game is the same as EVE in one major way: it's global.
Yes, there are three different battleservers, but as we all already know, you can play on whichever one the game puts you into.

Any given official Wow Realm can only support around 3000 unique users. So from our standpoint dust is alive an kickin'.
Additionally, keep in mind that theres around 500k people in that other game that will have a large interest in getting more guys into Dust once PC turns out worthwile for them |

Fair point. But for example TF2 is free to play and has over 100,000 playing a day. Dust over the past week has peaked at 4900 odd. usaully has about 3500 average.
I believe the game will grow over time as an MMO usually does.
Dust 514 doesn't need to have numbers similar to BF3 or COD just rise the number slightly |

Are those 100,000 concurrent users or daily total? Because those numbers are not really comparable if it's the latter. |

TF2 is also on different platforms that are established with F2P games.
The active player population is almost double what it was 2 months ago when I was checking server population, where it averaged about 1500. So the game is growing.
Also, people who are down on Uprising, it's got its issues yes, but frankly I'm having more fun with it, and that's what is supposed to happen when playing a game. |

Yeah true PC is way more established with F2P games. I am really believe Dust will grow. |

I have never had this issue ever and frankly any delay is the matchmaker at work. Halo and cod take just as long to get a match going. Who has quit game I hear this a lot and frankly I think its about as reliable as people saying their going to boycott the next cod game

People say that a lot, I actually said that about this game recently lol, and COD still make a bucket load of money. I hope that May 14 brings some balancing patches and fixes, like UP Tanks and OP Logistics, an SP reset, and some well deserved marketing. |

Not dead nor dying, expect the game to grow further with more updates, as EvE has. 5k is a very healthy number, other games have lived perfectly happy off populations of roughly 500 in their latter years, with basically no technical support behind it.
Can see this game very happily coming into its own over the next couple of years, with a name for itself rather than just "the FPS connected to EVE". |

There are going to be what? 250 districts, give or take, at the start of Planetary conquest? Each will require 16 people to defend it and 16 more people to contest it at any given time unless there are some very, very serious strategic bottlenecks.
You would need, at a bare minimum, about 8000 players to make this model consequential (considerably more since not all players are available every single day and not all will participate in PC). DUST currently has less than half that, and most of them are closed beta veterans. There are few, if any, new players in DUST that don't promptly uninstall based on the battles I've been in.
CCP has some very serious marketing, bug-fixing, and balancing work to do before they are going to make their very limited initial deployment of PC a success, much less take a bite out of the AAA FPS player base like they apparently want to do. |
