Something I noticed about Weapon (and suit) percentages is that AR usage/population seems to have gone up from an estimated 60-70% to about 85- 90% of the population base in uprising, based on what I have seen.
To give some background, I am a scout Shottie, have been for quite some time. I run zero shield/armor mods, so really the first 3 bullets kill me no matter what kind of damage the AR gets. And as a shottie, range reduction has very minimal benefits. So AR range and damage donGÇÖt really concern me a whole lot, I bounce around at 1.5 to 2 ratio, IGÇÖm happy.
I also want to point out that scout shotties has always been a niche role, and we complain the least due to this acknowledgement. Also AR (and LR) users actually create our role through their visibility and suppression, causing people to bunker down and divert their focus, while I can go flank and cause hell. AR users or similar weapons are in fact beneficial for me as a whole, I could not have the fun I do with a scout shottie without them, and hope they remain a strong and a significant part of the population, but the lack of variety is a bit saddening.
I miss the shotie v MD dance off, the cross your fingers fatty circling , sniper hunting, and the maniacal laughing watching LR users try at short range.
Pretty much, all that is left is jumping in AR cover camps with nades and behind the head shots, which is fun as well, but variety is nice.
Another aspect that pops out at me that signifies the rarity of other weapons is the reaction I get from people when they see me and they close in on me as I tuck in behind a corner, I believe some of my success in this build is simply due to the fact that everyone expects AR, so after one KA-BOOM, you can sense the panic decision making as they try to discern what is the appropriate amount of retreating/offense they should provide.
To reiterate, I can function in a Dust 514 with 90% ARs, but I would enjoy it a bit more if there was more variety. I also donGÇÖt pretend to know what exactly needs to be done to bring the AR population down to an arbitrary 50% or if this just because people are scared to try anything else. So while the balance doesn't hurt me, I am sympathetic to the other roles/weapons complaints only due to the fact that they are abandoning it in numbers for the AR. This is my concern as a player and I am curious on what your prospective is on this front.
************************************************************************************************************************* I am also curious to hear thoughts from AR users, again I don't want to make you guys impotent, but what balances is appropriate or effective if we are trying to encourage a little variety? What balances do you think need to be made if any?

I'm not an AR user anymore after I found the mass driver in Chromosome. Seems like anything that wasn't a Gallente weapon took a huge hit. Nerfed in damage, utility, or a combination of the two. These changes are so over excessive, that the AR is just better in comparison. In some ways, it feels like it got a buff. This game needs diversity, in weapons, classes, and *cough*vehicles*cough* to be successful. People have been throwing around the terms AR 514, CoD 514, Nerf 514 and they're exactly right. There's nothing but DAKKA! DAKKA! DAKKA! on every map to the point that it's nauseating. I'm a mass driver user, and I can't even do my job to suppress and scatter the enemy because I'm not doing enough damage to be a threat and my area denial capabilities have been taken away. We've all seen the forums of people venting their irritation because their favorite niche that wasn't an assault with an AR lost something while the AR remains untouched. It's creating the feeling of favoritism in the weapon classes and it's going to be the end of this game. Another aspect to be worried about with the lack of variety is the endgame scenario. When high stake events like PC/CB/FW become a factor, some of the more hardcore corps will eventually deny participation from anyone that isn't using the AR, because in their minds, it's the best weapon in the game. Elitism like this happens more often than not and Dust 514 prime grounds for it to take place again. Something needs to be done to inspire weapons diversity, and I'm afraid that adding three new weapons next Tuesday isn't going to help when the AR is still king. Adjustments have to be made to promote diversity and balance. When that happens, we'll see less ARs and the meta game will expand beyond people crying for nerfs to anything that's not an AR. |

Most weapons got a certain nerf.
The ones that are still pretty much the same are Assault rifles, with just a Range nerf.
Lasers without sights, Mass drivers that dont do damage, (And with the armor buffs) Shotguns taht now take 2-3 shots to kill at Close range, medium suits that it.
But the AR does pretty much the same as before. Equip GEK or Tactical AR with a complex damage mod. Kill as you always have or even better.
Of course there is an increase in AR users... |
