Hey there folks! Been a long time lurker of these forums and i decided that i'd post something that i've been recently working on. It's the biography of my main character in DUST. I may have got a few things wrong lore wise and i do apologise for that beforehand and would also like to warn those that there are some graphic scenes and hopefully sad moments!
I can't post it all in one giant post sadly so i'll post the second half in another post once i throw up the first half. I really do hope you enjoy what i've took pleasure in writing and do please excuse the grammar!
Please, enjoy!
Gallente patriot with a deep passionate hatred of his Caldari cousins, Samuel Vanderthorn is by far not the brightest beacon of light to his brothers and sisters of the Gallente Federation and he'd never want it that way. Being part of a second generation settler family on Caldari Prime he like many other settlers on the planet grew up in a divide and to make matters worse, his family lived in the city of Tovil. His grandfather, a ex federation navy engineer never sneered or mocked the Caldari State in any way, if anything he tried to instil into Samuel and his older sister that the road of prejudice was a ragged and dangerous one which he should never take.
The young boy was completely enthralled by his grandfather's navy stories, speaking fondly of the Dominix vessel he had served on which encapsulated Samuel's imagination of being a starship pilot, sailing through the endless gulfs of New Eden. For those small amount of years, Samuel began to see the Caldari people not as the monsters his timid young life grew up to only know but now he seen them as human beings, like his grandfather and himself.
Having such a different mindset from the rest of the community utterly alienated him from many social activities which affected him quite deeply on the inside whilst his exterior looked completely indifferent to the abuse and bullying. He didn't have many friends but there was one who endured his social hardship along with himself, a Caldari born teen by the name of Makato Yukimura whom Samuel will always see as a brother, no matter what happens.
Both sides of the divide were fierce in their almost biblical hatred for each other and having a friend on the other side was scowled at with vitriol. Caldari citizens under federation rule felt like second class citizens, treated like scum and barely given good honest paying jobs where as a normal everyday Gallente citizen basked in small wealth and comfort and ultimately, ignorance.
How Samuel came to meet Makato was something that could have ended the young teens life if it hadn't gone the way it went. Samuel was being chased by a group of his bullies who ended up chasing him to the fringes of a Caldari ghetto. Desperation struck the young man and he lost himself in the winding streets and alleys of that place, his bullies never followed for obvious reasons.
Soon Samuel would find himself in a world he never knew existed, it reeked of destitution and poverty. He tried to hide from plain sight but his soft olive gallentean complexion would betray him as a group of curious teens approached him perplexed as to why a gallentean would wander into their territory. First came the verbal insults in which the young gallentean didn't rise to, remembering what his grandfather had taught him but eventually tempers flared and they had set upon him like a savage horde.
It was through the terrible blows of his aggressors that Samuel found himself being dragged away from the cacophony of violence surrounding him. His vision became drawn, darkness ebbed deeper with each heart beat until eventually he succumbed to the darkness. As he'd waken, he'd obviously thought he passed into the afterlife but he was confronted by a single Caldari face; Makato Yukimura.
The young caldari teen had rescued the gallentean on the grounds of cancelling out future lynch mobs that would ensue if Samuel had been beaten to death, ghettos would have been razed to the ground and many Caldari would have lost their lives over a mere excuse to annihilate them and the bloodthirsty mobs would have started with Makato's ghetto.
Oddly the two became friends, meeting in neutral parts of the city and generally hanging out, which strengthened over the coming years, both sides accepting the one and the other. Around the age of nineteen tragedy would strike once more.
He'd meet Makato for the very last time in one of their usual neutral spots in the city, a recent incident had shaken the communities of paramilitaries on both sides setting up random checkpoints, checking locals illegally and in some cases, murdering them in cold blood.
Samuel would walk down the same road and down the same alley to meet his best friend only to be confronted by a group of masked men and Makado, ice ran through the young Gallentean's veins as he caught Makado's eyes and for the briefest of moments there was something beneath the surface that intertwined the two, something intimate. It was broken when he man beside the young Caldari man coldly brandished a pistol and without so much as a second thought raised it to Makato's temple.
He reacted with one step forward, his arm extended outwards whilst his hand tried to reach his lover but he was numb from the core to his skin, a brief flash illuminated the alleyway, the sound of the gun fell on deaf ears for Samuel as he watched the only person that he cared so deeply about crumple forward into a gurgling heap.
His knees went weak and gravity kicked in, forcing him to his knees, his hands splayed openly as his head cocked to the side in utter disbelief that this was reality. A deep cherry red pool extended outwards around Makato's body as the paramilitary men ignored him, brushing past him already knowing they killed two people that night.
End of Part 1.

Part 2
Eventually the young man would hold Makato's lifeless frame screaming into his hollowed head to come back, it was one of the worst moments in his life. Crippling depression reigned over him for at least a year before his sister once dragged him out the hole he had dug himself into. She had joined the Tovil police force a few months before the horrible incident involving Makato and ever since then, Rose has took her little brother in, nursing him back to health and hoping to get him ready to face the merciless world once more.
The day finally came when he finally broke his bonds of depression and began his epic journey to save lives, particularly in the military. He signed himself up to the Federation Marines and soon had the role of a medic in which is was quite good at.
A few years would pass and Samuel would become a very distinguished individual on the battlefield, he saved many lives and limbs in various theatres of battle all over gallentean space, pirates were mostly the biggest threat in which he didn't particularly care for. It was when Tibus Heth came to power that would turn his world upside down once more.
Watching the news feeds of this despicable creature preaching fire and brimstone about his people enraged him but waved him off as some form of lunatic who'd eventually would be absorbed and forgotten but eerily it never happened. The Caldari state was now in a state of massive uproar, worlds turning to utter anarchy and death and with great contempt it spread like wild fire.
Caldari Prime would hit Samuel the hardest, the place where he was born, the place where all those he loved had slipped away from him except for his sister and mother. Word had spread that civil unrest and dissent had gripped Tovil and many other parts of the planet and soon the unrest grew to full scale riots when someone fired a single shot. If there was hell, it was Caldari Prime Samuel thought. He became deathly worried about his family and when the news reached him it was devastating.
His sister, Rose was surrounded by a group of Caldari thugs and dragged off and brutally gang-raped by them before they tried to finish her off by beating her skull in. Makato came flooding back to him and now he was absolutely powerless to do anything again. His rage was unbridled and furious if not barbaric.
In the coming days the initial surprise invasion had stuck the planet and like every other citizen in the Gallente federation, he wanted blood and it was Caldari blood they all craved the most.
On the battlefield the medic would take great delight in capturing his Caldari victims alive in various skirmishes across the gallente/caldari border worlds and with a few blind eyes he'd torture them in the most inhumane way possible. His favourite form of torture was feminising the men with the bluntest instruments he could get his hands on and without any anaesthetic whatsoever; they're agony would be legendary.
The lessons his grandfather had taught him were cast to the wind, the only thing that remained in his heart now was the utter decimation of the Caldari State and he'd happily oblige in prolonging it's suffering.
Years of hard fighting would pass once more and he'd be confronted by some Gallente military high ups, they would ask him if he'd accept their proposal to be part of something great that would absolutely break the stalemate against the Caldari State.
He accepted and from that day forward Samuel transcended his mortality and joined those above the heaving masses of humanity in New Eden as an Immortal Soldier.
Life no longer needs the opulent farce called death, immortality is only getting better. |
