Heavies role and ideal role was as an infantry tank,
In order to full fill this role in the current aspect of the game and for the future without having to retouch heavies every few weeks with updates, was simple. Make them able to tank 4-6 enemies a "squad" but not have enough damage to effectively kill a proto assault 1 vs 1 and the proto assault not being able to kill the heavy without her/him wasting near all his bullets on an already ammo stricken planet.
Range was never a issue, other then people who cant aim or think you should impose an in game or computer generated limit on people with personal aiming skill.
Range has never been an issue from even the current USA military training simulators factor in player skill in long range aiming. Even the current modern assault rifles offer further range abilities then offered in DUST 514 a supposed advance year with improved implants and drop suit's to extend the ability of an average human.
Range offers heavies an better ability in a support role, as their mobility and turning radius is an issue they should be able to walk forward and provide cover fire with their high caliber bullets, in the year what?
Paving a Road in a city to facilitate the population numbers quoted last year makes no sense. Please don't create this problem in DUST where u are always behind.
Throwing away "making sense" in real world to facilitate convenience in the game will always get negative results as it ruins the gaming experience.
Dust isn't going to stay 16 vs 16 and the maps aren't going to stay in small scale as they are; with such aspirations, the range limitations are going to have to be retouched each time the granduer of DUST 514 is, and to me that is very short sighted, the precedent should be set now, and if this is it? then you should rename this game to RUNNING 514.
The current range limitations based upon some stupid computer telling me my skill has no relevance to my aim is creating stalemates between players at fixed ranges, where either side can't remove enough threat to advance or bridge ranges, and this is going to be a massive issue with more populated maps.
Grenades ranges for whatever reason where something left off the table, a more explosive packed grenade should be heavier and there fore more limited on throwing range, as it is currently assault characters can throw near twice as far as their shooting range is. Heavies is even more hilarious.
Sleek and higher explosive packed grenades should have a range limit relook, and heavies with their role should automatically have a throwing range advantage. P.S. Who said grenades needed a buff? a freaking militia grenade doing 741 damage? and a m1 same range doing 438...
****All in all everything on this patch is acceptable and even deserves mass applause even the range limitations i have been ranting about. The aiming game mechanics that have been imposed to deliberately make aiming inconsistent to slow down game play in DUST 514 is an insult. This isn't an accident, give us an accurate representation of our physical animations.
If aiming even made any sense in this patch players would be hailing CCP in mass's as genius's, and all the other issues would just be personal preference.*****
