Best regards, - CCP Blam!
CCP this quote makes me fear the future of the game. I came here expecting that FPS where as I skill up to access better content. As I become better myself and as I gain access to better weapons, suits, and mods I am able to handle more risk style game play.
But what blam seems to be saying is that things are going to get flattened. This is a bad idea. The major draw in this game is skilling up becoming better and noticing the difference. The money I earn the skill points I make is all turning me into a far superior player then I was before. Gamers love that feel of power. And this is the first FPS out there that pays you for your time played in reality. In call of duty I can sit down with a first day account and run train. Play for 48 hours and I have all the weapons unlocked. Here it takes a lot longer.
So you want new players to gain that immersion quicker. I think you need to look at how skill intensive your skills are. 6 months for hardcore players to fully spec out one style of play. That is suit, single weapon, support skills, and modules. This means casual players will more like take 7-12 months to fully spec out one style of play. Yes after you fully spec out this style of play it becomes pretty easy to spread on it as long as you are not switching across from armor to shield or shield to armor. Or from vehicles to infantry. If you do that your probably talking about another 4 months to spec into a single thing. As you can see people have a giant isk sink that they are running into.
Instead of having it so skill intensive like itis right now make it 2-3 month for a person to fully spec out in one style of play. Make a bigger separation in styles of play. This gets newer players immersed deeper quicker. You do not need to flatten the game which is hurting it. Vehicle users are noticing this flattening the most currently. Also the access of lvl of play can be more immersible. You create gameplay for newer players to start out in. Older players can join but they are limited on there suits they can bring and maybe even there skills will not be applied to this gameplay. As players gain knowledge and get better they can move deeper into the gamplay fighting against people who have fully speced out skills.
People will spec out into things faster yes. But there fun will be in the ability to branch out. They are not stuck spending half a year to a year trying to spec out all skills to support their style of play. It becomes a better experience for them because they are actually getting a chance to change up their gameplay. People get bored when all they can do is play as one thing over and over.
Please reconsider your goals. Approach them a different way . |

In one thread I see, "CCP, Make newberries suck so I can stomp them!" In another thread I see, "CCP, make it so I can instantly get into a logi suit!"
This is why nobody is happy on the forums. People only talk about the things they don't want, and the silent (but content) majority sits there and feels the pointy end of the stick. |

Wrong. This is one thing CCP does get right.
Dust is an FPS first, MMO second. Player skill must always take precedence over how many hours you put into the game. This is especially important for an F2P game: if there is not a constant influx of new players, the game will die.
If you want to play a game where vets with 10m SP can pubstomp using just one button, go play WoW or pretty much any MMO. Us FPS players like our games which require actual skill to excel at, and where no-lifing isn't a surefire way to success. |

Surely in time SP requirements will become less and higher tiers of suits, weapons and variations of such will be introduced. I.e a cloaked scout.
This will be the 'flattening' you speak of, not reducing the requirements for everything 'now' we got to get there first.
It's how EVE works, its how they introduce new content and once you have the core skills you can skill into new content as you see fit and a lot quicker.
DUST is really in its infancy, truly. You just watched its big brother EVE go into its 10th anniversary how many games except WoW have successfully done that?
If you don't have the foresight to see that CCP are competent and eventually will bring us the game we dreamed of then go, and come join us in 5 years. DUST is going anywhere, its free!. |
