Not many people have gone proto shotgun I am sure... I have so here are my thoughts.
You sir, are correct. It's useless as a primary weapon in the long haul. It's likely the sharpshooter duff has hurt the shotgun more than any other weapon out there. It's the maps. A fine line where you used to be able to survive and move to cover, or survive and close the gap existed in the last build providing you were a good player. It's gone now and there are dead zones for shotgun users all over these maps regardless of skill. Better players who have figured this out tease users by easily staying out of range while blasting the user who can't make it to cover.
Stuck with the shotgun, the better choice is now use a SMG as the primary and switch to shotgun as a secondary if you manage to get in close. Is this truly working as intended? I highly doubt it. I think CCP didn't think this through, at all. |

My initial response to this thread was that range was the big issue. But I agree hit detection and the aiming issues have compounded the problem to the extreme. If i hear they fixed the controller and range and added some distance I'll give it another whirl,,, |

I agree with you there, but even at the tip of their range, a shot gun and still whack the average medium suit of equivalent level in about 3 shots. The shotgun is fine the way it is, even if a tad obnoxious.
It depends entirely on max range and dispersion. Proto shotgun pellet does 44 damage, and if max range was increased properly, you'd only get hit with 1 pellet. 44 damage enough to drop you in 3? Or better yet add impact damage dropoff instead and get hit with say 4 pellets at 20%..... err 35 damage? 3 still scary?
The bullet disappearing act is the problem here., and the controller aim ATM. |
