So the HMG was the only weapon that received a nerf to range right; wrong! Thanks to Musta Tornius and his work during previous builds as well as this one, we can see here that more than just the HMG received a range nerf: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=356717#post356717
I first noticed this when I decided to test the ranges of the 3 current weapons we have now that matter to me: the shotgun, laser, and AR. Of these three the shotgun and AR both received a maximum range nerf. Most of the ARs seem to have gotten a slight optimal buff also, however, the shotguns optimal either stayed the same or were nerfed as well. Here are the old and new numbers for the shotguns I was able to test:
Chromosome:
Standard Shotgun Max Range: 29m Optimal Range: 1-5m
Breach Shotgun Max Range: 29m Optimal Range: 1-9m
Uprising:
Standard Shotgun Max Range: 17m Optimal Range: 1-4m
Breach Shotgun Max Range: 17m Optimal Range: 1-5m
So there you can see the Breach Shotgun received an overall nerf to range. Lasers seem to have retained their range stats from Chromosome, however that is the main point I would like to address. The Laser has an optimal range of only 18 meters, barely under half of the ARs optimal. This is part of the reason the Laser is so gimped now. Before Uprising we had Sharpshooter which extended our Laser range to the point where we could kill reds before they could get into cover. Now with sharpshooter gone the Lasers range is not quite so impressive and reds can easily get to cover or charge straight in your face before you can heat the laser enough to do a decent amount of damage.
Because of this I believe the lasers optimal range should be doubled (instead of 62-80, 44-80). This would help bring back the usefulness of the Laser (along with a change to the sighting system). It is supposed to be a mid to long range weapon anyway correct? Looking at the AR it would seem 40 to 50 meters is the definition of mid range in Dust. But, what does everyone else think about all this range talk? |

Nstomper wrote:there are literally 50 threads on this , did you also post this in feedback /request?
I know theres a lot of threads on it but most of them are only "Muh aRs range suks now, I wun muh munay bak." I have yet to see an intelligent discussion that includes actual ranges and stuff, so figured I would provide one. Ill let people discuss a bit then Ill make a thread in feedback that links to this one. |

Some pretty good points there. |

There was some dude a day or two ago hopping on everyones posts saying that only the HMG was nerfed. It also wasn't an official nerf like the HMG was, so it is likely less known or proven. Talk to us about the HMG range nerf though, Id say considering everyone lost sharpshooter the HMG didn't need a range nerf. |
