TL;DR Dust has been shallowed down into an objective pile up of short range stuff. A rich tactical battlefield would have an artillery siege layer of field control. This can be done by increased sniper and railgun ranges, with specialized glass cannon suits and tanks that die to a bad stare in close range.
Siege: A battlefield tactical layer where entrenched formations of long range fire support evolve and fight for established field control.
Frontline: The objective pile up of fast paced tactical fights where control of objectives is decided.
The both above layers must be healthy and viable in a battlefield for it to become a constantly evolving game of tactics. The game of calling the shots in group composition is the most intriguing promise of tactical fps that dust has.
For example, let's say Seraphim with the strong tanks and frontline attacks Synergy, who bring their sniper dream team. The fight starts off by Synergy claiming total field control in the 4km long alley battleground, preventing Seraphim from any advance. After strenuous clone losses, Seraphim manages to claim a central spawn and quickly begin to dominate objective after another in the closed terrain. Synergy now needs to evolve in order to hold the match: they need to reroute a number of snipers and rail tanks to a frontline role, while keeping up the key sniper entrenchments to prevent a counter switch of a LHughes stomping all their noobs on the hills. This is an evolving battleground.
The uprising vision of PC is different. You bring mass heavies and frontline in logistics LAV's to objective. Who brings most/best wins. The only tactical swap is between scrambler rifle and tactical AR, armor and shield. Then you go for the knockout of shotgunners.
This game needs campers in order to deserve the New Eden stamp of approval. EVE online has a rich tactical layer of ranges. Dust could have it, too. Now the newest iteration is just a watered down version for narrow minds who cannot see further than their assault rifle range.
SUGGESTIONS: GÇó unlimited sniper rifle, railgun, artillery, beam laser cannon and missile range for new siege variants GÇó siege tanks being the only ones able to use said unlimited range cannons, while rooted in siege mode (10sec sequence) GÇó sniper rifles that are unlimited range are of a special variant that needs to be deployed, rooted down in order to shoot (5sec sequence) |
