THIS POST IS FOR NICHE PLAYERS (and for assault players that recognize importance in game balance and good communication between a player base and a development team). TL;DR further down below.
It is NOT directed at CCP. I'm through wasting time out of my life coming to these forums. This is my final post on these forums period. Uprising just proved how much of a damn the feedback of niche players was worth to them.
I'm able to play just fine. I anticipated the game would become even more Assault role oriented, and I'm happy I changed my play style to Assault accordingly... I've been doing very well ever since.
...Wait, no... I'm not happy. IDGAF if I'm doing well as an assault. How I played and what role I played should have never had to change!
I was a sniper. I took pleasure in Dust's dynamic battlefield... where nearly every combat role could be experienced in a immersive and fulfilling way. You COULD have been the sniper, that supports his squad and team from super long distances. Not anymore... At least, not unless you're running a Thale's every match.
Dynamic sniper positions are gone, because people found it unfair to be sniped from a guy in a mountain, or anywhere else they couldn't easily reach. I tried to counter-argue this, and I tried to fight the good fight for my role on forums, and failed. Now there is no position a sniper can get on me, that I can't simply counter-snipe with my Tactical AR, or get to with ease, and they are relatively so close... there is no tactical penalty for "going out of your way" to get them.
The glory of Manus' Peak.... the actual mountain itself, is gone. That once great mountain is now nothing more than a painting on a skybox in the background! It's when I saw THAT, that I decided to put my points into Assault. The one map. The ONLY map, where snipers can establish complete dominance, was "fixed". Instead of Assault players, as "versatile" as they claim to be, adapting to the map, enough of them complained, and successfully got the map adapted to them instead.
Today, you have some good snipers, saying they're doing well. They claim they like Uprising. Yet play a match with them, and hear them complain about how their sniper rifles do **** damage to assaults. Assaults have HP totals so high they can tickle God's nose and pluck his eyebrows out. They eat sniper rounds and keep on going. (Again, unless it's a Thale's.) But clearly this was considered okay. It's supposed to take 3+ rounds for a sniper with a 5 round clip to kill someone. Fine. Fact and reality accepted. I can adapt. Sniper role therefore dropped. I can take out a chump at a similar range with 4-5 fast rounds with a Tactical AR. Sniper rifles can kiss my ass in this game. There is 100% no purpose to getting a long-range (CHARGED) shot "to finish off or weaken enemies for your squad". None. **** that. **** sniping. I can do the exact same ******* thing on the ground with a Tactical AR, fast feet, and a flanking position. Sniping was something to be reckoned with, when you couldn't easily find and access the sniper. Now it's a joke. A gigantic punch line.
Much better off sniping in Battlefield 3. It makes a difference there, and still takes a measure of skill.
Conclusion and TL;DR... I made some positive contributions to these forums, for the purpose of protecting a dynamic battlefield, in a very fun game, with loads of potential.
Here's one. Something myself and others brought up: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=59539

This tells me, that I wasted my time. Every minute, of every debate, of every hour spent in-game "testing", and bringing feedback. Me being a Closed Beta Tester, bothering to argue with Open Beta Testers, to enlighten them about the progress we thought we were making... and even when the Open Beta guys finally saw what the Closed Beta guys were saying the whole time. It was too late, and it was a waste. I took pride in knowing my time contributed was helping to produce possibly one of the greatest games ever made. Instead, everything I ever said here on these forums mattered to the wrong people. It mattered to people, that couldn't change the game; and mattered not, to the ones that could.
I would quit Dust and leave, but I enjoy playing with my corp and alliance. Some of the funniest, goofiest, and yet most professional gamers I've had the privilege of playing with. For their sakes, I will play, and if and when they move on to another game, I will go with them.
But I will never, ever, EVER... post on these forums again.
And I will NEVER, EVER buy Aurum from CCP again. I encourage anyone and everyone that agrees with me to do the same. |
