Hey guys!
I have been playing Dust for a few months and it is definitely getting there with this latest Uprising update!
Here is my concern and someone please help me if I am missing something... I've got friends getting into it and quitting immediately because they cannot be even remotely competitive in a match. These are people who are EXCELLENT FPS players on many other games (No, not COD lol). It is baffling to me how CCP expects new players to contend on the official launch date with people who have been playing since beta and have millions of SP and ISK stocked up. CCP has said numerous times they want players to jump in and play... you can't.
It is like playing a MMORPG PVP match and expecting a level 1 to compete with a level 80. You can't do it. Its impossible. Putting players with vastly different equipment levels on the same battlefield is ridiculous. They are just basically living WP farms for veteran players.
I am just afraid that this game will not attract new players unless something is done about this. Maybe level capped battles or scaled servers... something.... because the current system is not working IMO.
I wanted to post this to see if CCP has already got something in the works to address this!
Thanks for the read and your responses! |

CCP have suggested in the past that matchmaking is a low-priority task.
Nobody else understands how they think that makes any sense either. |

To their credit, they "tried" match making briefly. I think its low priority because they don't know how. |

Maybe an easy alternative would be to have meta-limited matches. That is, when you enter one of these matches, you cannot use any dropsuit+fitting with anything that's higher than (eg) meta 1. This might be quicker to implement as a rough way of balancing things out.
I'm assuming it wouldn't be too hard to restrict dropsuits on the basis of meta levels. |

With Eve they have security status to help distinguish game play. Implementing a high/low/null with an attached meta limit would do wonders. It would be interesting to ask a Dev why? My speculative guess is they are more concerned with getting people into matches asap since any meaningful match making would delay deployment. |

With the introduction of faction warfare, I personally see no issue with meta restrictions in instant battle. Using faction warfare gives us a 2 tiered system where you can have faction warfare totally open to your choice of gear as these games are supposted to be more challanging and more organized. Whereas in instant battle you are expected to just jump in and play.
This would allow new players to not feel so far behind in instant battles as even a high level player in STD gear is going to have an advantage but it's not going to be quite so mind-blowingly powerful to new players. And then as they explore the other game modes on thier own or with a corp they will more slowly see just how high and powerful the gear will go.
And personally when I'm in instant battle I don't want to bring all my best gear because I do want to save my isk for corp donations. I just want to relax and enjoy the game not having to worry about how much isk I'm loosing and turning a profit. For higher level players just looking to farm some isk instant battle would work just fine in such a system as you know you won't be spending much isk to play. |

Pretty sure they didn't fix anything, they just made it so squads would go up against squads... at least they tried, and failed miserably. |

I'd love a militia only game mode without use of passive skills. That is the only way I could think of having a fun fair competitive match up. |

I was suggesting an option that might be quick to code. I imagine just a meta level limit is significantly quicker to implement than a meta+passive skill limit.
And I think it's probably good not having a passive skill limit. Encourages players to learn more about the skills system, but doesn't give them a significant advantage. |

I'm not console FPS pro. With Uprising I played with started fittings just because I didn't decide what skills to take. I didn't noticed such a big disadvantage you describe here. |

I think haivng SP restrictions would be the easiest option.
The following should be matchmaking options for quick battles only, not for FW and/or PC, where anything goes.
HighSec = 1,500,000 SP max LowSec = range of SP limits from 3,000,000 to 10,000,000 NullSec = no limits
Players with less than 1,500,000 SP have all options available when searching. When you get your SP high enough, HighSec option vanishes, and there will only be the selection of LowSec options or NullSec to choose from. As you skill up further, less options for matchmaking will be available.
Also, there needs to be a minimum player count before the game assigns players to teams, so you don't get stupid 6 vs. 2 matches when a squad joins. Wait for a minimum of 6 vs. 6 before letting us play, and then only if there's a way to balance the teams to within 2 players. If there are two squads of 5 and a squad of 6, it should wait for a closer balance between team numbers, because that's just as stupid as 6 vs. 2. |

Core skills 3 mill sp only need militia stuff to own noobs
but at the end the dif between militia weapon and proto weapon is like 10 damage a few extra shots maybe more range
but difference between basic damage mode and complex is vast
