For us pilots, the new Dropship changes in Uprising have been long awaited. We wanted a much broader role to play on the battlefield, and to become what we are meant to be. Ships that drop infantry off, and picking them up again as aerial transport. With 'Uprising' I am happy to say, we can actually do that now with the new handling and general feel of the dropship itself. The collision damage reduction has been greatly appreciated across the board, and AV doesn't seem as over-powered as it was before (but it's a little early to be saying that, once people get more skills, weapons etc.)
The handling allows us to fry more 'freely', being able to weave our way between buildings at a faster speed, along with the awesome improvement made to the flight ceiling. We can actually fly away quick enough, especially in the Assault variant, up to the skies, far above the battlefield. This may enrage the persistent anti-air guy, but often or more they get their chance. As a Caldari-only pilot, I can say, as the Myron and Eryx feel more sluggish, their maneuverability allows the more-skilled pilots to avoid even the stickiest of situations. I've made the mistake of bad-SP placing on the dropship to not avail of my ideal fit yet, but they seem to be more 'tankier'. The Assault variant, being much more faster and easier to handle (my own opinion of course) allows us to get in close and kill using the front-mounted turret, pinning down even the hardiest of tanks.
Now, all that above is well and good, but let's get down to the more pressing cons, shall we? The Dropship hull price reduction has not been put into affect, as of now (be it a bug or otherwise) is hitting our wallets hard. The Assault Dropship camera is tricky, being able move the turret in third-person, even though it's hard to see through your own dropship, we can still guess.. but not in first person. We have to use the best of our ability, multi-tasking in our attempt to keep the dropship from nose-diving into the target whilst actually trying to kill them. The ability to move the turret in first-person would give us more of an impact on the battlefield.
As much as us vehicle users already know all to well, the PG and CPU 'nerf' has been hard-hitting. The Chromosome build just about gave us our ideal fits, and with the price increase on turrets, I think the Chromosome CPU and PG skills should be returned to us in compensation for this. The pricey-er the vehicle, the bigger the reward, the bigger the incentive to kill it, the more guys we have coming after us with anti-vehicle weaponry.
One final thing.. I've been a big advocate for Mobile CRU and Built-In CRU WP's for a long time now, and I think it's high-time we get some. Even if there's a 60 second cap at 100 WP's (25 WP a spawn), it would make a huge difference to us. It would also give more of an incentive to use the Logistics-class Dropship. I know I should put this in Feedback & Requests but this is just a review, and with that, 'first-look' review complete. Thanks for reading. |
