You see, it's when people say things like that, HTFU, or Adapt or Die, that really gets on my nerves because those people think that Dust logic = EVE logic and that the gameplay should be as exactly similar as it can and hten the game will be good, when it just can't.
I'll work in terms of new player experience and useability for right now.
In EVE, when someone new joins up, they're still potentially useful after about the first week. Get them to train in a bit of E-War and you have yourself someone who can completely immobilize your enemy. In addition, he's another player joining your numbers, he's another person to shoot at for you enemies that they didn't have before, and he's just a tiny bit of extra dps from his small railgun and single warrior drone, but he's still extra dps.
Not to mention at the very least there's a lot of PVE he can start out on.
Now look at the new player experience of a Dust player. It is possible to make someone useful after about a week, you have them train explosives so they can plant on an objective and cover it that way. However the use of that tactic is extremely limited, indeed in facing a good team, you will only see that used once and then it will be called out and every next time someone hacks an objective, that RE is going to be shot out.
In addition, by adding him to your team, you are going to be taking someone else out. While in EVE you can bring a thousand ships to play, in Dust you are limited to 16 players and that's it. if you remove a good player for a bad one who will use RE's effectively once, you are bringing in a detrimental player that will only make the game harder for yourselves.
And until that player has specced into complex shield extenders, a suit that can fit enough of them, and the core skills to allow the fitting of them, then his survivability will be junk and he will only be a clone sink as far as any real battle will go.
A new player is cannon fodder when facing proto, and that's about it. What this game needs is gear limit battles.
Militia only
Standard and less only
Advanced and less only
Proto and less only
It's the only way a new player can compete.
Oh, and PVE would be nice...
