So in early September of last year I was one of the lucky people who signed up for the closed beta without buying a merc pack and I got in. Yay for me, now I had never played mulitplayer FPS games before because they never seemed to have a point for me, but this one, with the opportunity to affect an entire galaxy and battle for planets, oh and hey there are all these different roles and weapons you can use. My FPS skills were more adapted for fighting AI than othe rplayers so I was pretty bad (still am) but hey there is this logi role I could play, I could support my team, help my corporation, be a decent player. So I bought a merc pack for UVTs, joined a corp, bought boosters, BPO suits, a couple more merc packs.
Now imagine I didn't start playing 9 months ago, but yesterday or 7 days from now on "launch" Now this me is still new to FPS games, still doesn't have the tricks down for being competative in a gun fight, but oh hey there is a logi specialty, I can do that...oh wait I can't unless I spend 2 months playing a role I'm not good at, brings me little reward or fun, and even then all I can spend SP on is my drop suit, nothing else. Do I spend 2 months grinding a game I can't have fun with, do I buy merc packs for boosters and aurum, or do I say "well that sucks" and dellete Dust and move on to another more polished FPS, with a fun campaign? Guess what option 3 is what I would have done and what I believe most people will do. But hey thats OK I hope that when Dust goes the way of Brink, MAG and Starhawk that you guys put more resources into World of Darkness, even my wife is excited for that game. |

I'm not leaving, I have been played and stackign up SP since last wipe and unlike the hypothetical me I was able to get into logi threads. The whole point was, that SP sinks and having to skill into Medium frame (i.e. assault without the little bonuses) before logi doesn't effect me much. Its the poor bastards that may be trying out Dust for the first time next week that are screwed and this game if it can't draw new paying customers/drives its current customers away or towards not buying aurum.

I think a good portion of the issues raised in OP could be resolved with the addition of matchmaking and PVE content.
Still, never hurts to ask. |

He didn't say HE didn't have the SP to unlock Logi, he said that new players will look at the barrier to entry and tell the game where to stick it. Learn to read, people. |

Its more of a "Hey its silly to expect new people to not be able to get into a role without having to grind away 2 million SP post". And the solution to that is to get rid of the Medium frame and have logistics be in it's own tree. Heck keep it so that you have to spec in logistical frame before you get into the proper logi suit with racial bonuses.
Let me use this analogy, there is a f2p traditional MMO released and you realyl want to play a cleric, however, the way this game is set up you have to fully skill into the warrior class before you can choose to play cleric. Are most people going to grind it out, or move onto a game where they can choose the role the wish to play right away or at least realtively early? |

You still have the option to do a (bad) job of Logistics with the currently-available suits.
You can bring a Repair Tool, or the default Triage fitting, and patch people up or revive them.
It WOULD be nice if new players had the option of a "Starter Pack" that costs a decent amount of ISK - not all of their starting ISK, but a decent amount - for any of several roles. It would come with Skill Books, a Starter Fit (race-specific) and maybe enough gear to make 10 slightly better fittings than what the Starter comes with. It wouldn't be a very GOOD Starter Fit, but it would be, like the "Assault - Frontline" suit - a decent free loadout for learning the intended role.
Obviously, there's one really big problem with this. Caldari don't have a Heavy OR a Light Frame. Gallente and Minmatar don't have Heavies. Amarr don't have Lights. Something like this would have to wait until we have the full range of racial Frames, and probably until we have racial variants of every current role specialisation. |

Yes stick newberries into PVE in a FPS (the genre is designed for PVP or are you really that dense). Welp this game is going to flame out if they keep trying to make it "like EVE"
Its a DIFFERENT window into New Eden to lets players experience the Universe through a Different lens, not an identical one with some lame sephia filter. |

Planetside 2 is still gaining players. This game will do fine.
Planetside 2 has LESS than this game after nearly a year of being released, and it's still getting played while SOE continue to nerf PAID content and assets to the point that you have to buy another one to be competitive.
If that trainwreck is still going with NO metagame and laughable faction balance after all this time, I have full confidence we'll be celebrating 10 years of Dust in 2023. |

Are you daft?
No seriously, so you actually believe that?
Firstly, Planetside 2 has a HUGE advantage in that the gunplay is actually fun and the FPS mechanics aren't borked completely. I enjoy playing PS2 just to play it and not for the sake of the grind or the meta game.
Second, PS2 has WAAAYYYY more ingame content than DUST and continually increases. The amount of options for a player to do is staggering, everything from foot soldiers to planes to mechs to tanks... And multitudes of comtent for each of those roles, as well as fun, exciting and rewarding gameplay for each.
Also, their progression system feels equally as deep as DUSTs at the moment and doesn't hamstring you before getting into your role, but rather opens it to you from the start and encourages you to sub-specialize. It also keeps shinies within reach and not 6 months off like DUST.
They also add content way more frequently to the game, monthly major updates occur bringing even more new stuff, and SOE tends not to over react and nerfbat things into uselessness, and when they do the hotfix is up days later.
Also much more open, with a monthly roadmap for players to vote on and regular progress updates.
If you don't see this or understand this, there is literally nothing to be done for you, your quantifiably insane.
If anything DUST should look up to PS2 on how to do things, and then insert its own special touch of EVE into the mix... 0_0 |
