So in early September of last year I was one of the lucky people who signed up for the closed beta without buying a merc pack and I got in. Yay for me, now I had never played mulitplayer FPS games before because they never seemed to have a point for me, but this one, with the opportunity to affect an entire galaxy and battle for planets, oh and hey there are all these different roles and weapons you can use. My FPS skills were more adapted for fighting AI than othe rplayers so I was pretty bad (still am) but hey there is this logi role I could play, I could support my team, help my corporation, be a decent player. So I bought a merc pack for UVTs, joined a corp, bought boosters, BPO suits, a couple more merc packs.
Now imagine I didn't start playing 9 months ago, but yesterday or 7 days from now on "launch" Now this me is still new to FPS games, still doesn't have the tricks down for being competative in a gun fight, but oh hey there is a logi specialty, I can do that...oh wait I can't unless I spend 2 months playing a role I'm not good at, brings me little reward or fun, and even then all I can spend SP on is my drop suit, nothing else. Do I spend 2 months grinding a game I can't have fun with, do I buy merc packs for boosters and aurum, or do I say "well that sucks" and dellete Dust and move on to another more polished FPS, with a fun campaign? Guess what option 3 is what I would have done and what I believe most people will do. But hey thats OK I hope that when Dust goes the way of Brink, MAG and Starhawk that you guys put more resources into World of Darkness, even my wife is excited for that game. |

Its more of a "Hey its silly to expect new people to not be able to get into a role without having to grind away 2 million SP post". And the solution to that is to get rid of the Medium frame and have logistics be in it's own tree. Heck keep it so that you have to spec in logistical frame before you get into the proper logi suit with racial bonuses.
Let me use this analogy, there is a f2p traditional MMO released and you realyl want to play a cleric, however, the way this game is set up you have to fully skill into the warrior class before you can choose to play cleric. Are most people going to grind it out, or move onto a game where they can choose the role the wish to play right away or at least realtively early? |
