Since I was clearly tl;dr...
"Long-time listener, first time caller..."
I like you, CCP. I want you to succeed. But... your game is broken. It was, it is now, and honestly, it probably always will be in one way or another.
The bad news is that, as I see it, there is only one way for you as game developers to rescue yourselves and the investment you've made. The good news is that there is a way for you to rescue yourselves, and it shouldn't be too hard.
Just do one thing every day. Decide what it is, and get it done before you leave the office or turn in to sleep.
Make a new map. Draw a new dropsuit skin. Address a balance problem. Design a new game mode.
Then do something else tomorrow.
It doesn't have to be too much, but it'll show us players that you're working, and give us confidence that problems will be addressed "SOON." You can experiment and make mistakes, knowing that they can always be revisited on an ongoing basis. You can actively build the game and get feedback as you go, rather than investing everything in over-hyped packages.
You need to start doing this now, CCP, because you're running out of excuses, we're running out of patience, and unless you really have something- anything- to show for a hard day's work, then you should be losing sleep over the fact that there isn't likely to be an office for you to work in for very much longer.
Above all else, please make *this* change. I want you to do well. I think this is the only way. |

I didn't say anything about coding.
I did say something about doing and showing.
Here's what would make me happy:
The developers pick a distinct, actionable project for the day... say, designing a new structure to plug into a small slot on a map. It doesn't have to be the only thing they do all day, but they get something completed-enough to show off.
Then the community gets to look at it and comment, because "that's good, when can I play with it?" or "needs work, try again" or "that sucks, don't even think about it" is better than "..." and making us wait from February to May for their Upheaval expansion.
Then they do it again the next day, and put what works into the game as soon as they can.
It would generate active interest among players, help clear up the bad vibes from this week, and inspire people to spend money confident in the work they're already doing. |
