The EVE team usually does a fantastic job communicating upcoming changes to their player when dramatic changes are coming. They know that the unexpected can result in an uprising, the shooting of monuments and the canceling of subscriptions. We have come to expect detailed dev blogs and well managed feedback forum threads.
I'm one of those crazy fans that reads everything published by CCP and watches the FanFest videos twice looking for new information. It was pretty clear that Uprising was going to be a significant change. Significant enough that a skill point respec was in order.
I asked repeatedly for dev blogs. Many of us did. When we did get official information is was vague. The last dev blog before Uprising pointed us to a CSV and an Excel document which were inaccurate and less than useful to those that didn't spend significant time trying to decipher what they meant.
I created my first DUST spreadsheet to see how I should spend my skill points. Prerequisites were missing so I went to Singularity to dig up more information and found a little more. I waited until Uprising was delivered and was surprised by just how much things had changed and warned my son and my friends to go very slow and read very carefully before they spent their precious and hard earned points.
I was one of the first to login and entered a match in starter gear to see the beautiful new terrains and was immediately greeted by a swarm of prototype wearing and prototyping shooting mercenaries.
Today there is much crying.
Normally I'm with the HTFU crowd. You burned your points and screwed yourself but this time its not your fault. The DUST team failed to communicate. We should have had a series of dev blogs leading up to Uprising. Blogs that clearly indicated that key changes were coming and then laid them out for us instead of half-assed data dumps and silence.
i think my 10 million SP are well spent. I did the analysis because I'm old and do that for a living.
Leading up to 5.14 CCP should apologize, present the new skill and weapon changes clearly, and then do the respec again.

If Reav Hannari thinks the skill rollout was a fail, I have to respect that.
Personally, I don't think I need a respec- I only spent about half of my available SP last night out of a desire to be cautious. I'm rocking some pretty basic stuff, but that's okay for the time being.
However, if the man who pretty much wrote the book on Dust skills (since CCP didn't) thinks people deserve a second chance, I'm willing to go through the skilling process one more time. Especially if it will stop some of the QQ flooding the boards.
Seriously. I've run out of storage tanks, barrels, and even tanker trucks. I've got no more room for tears. |

Pretty much, though I was lucky/smart enough to read descriptions so no points were wasted.
However, I honestly believe that a full character reset aka all the other patches is required. Sobbing beta testers is one thing, but new players faced with 10+ million SP characters on first day of release will just say WTF, and uninstall.
Ridiculous all round. If you try to please everyone, you please nobody. Beta testers signed up knowing it wasn't final release. To expect to keep SP from testing is craziness. |

I'd like to say that while I agree with the OP, the Iceland team did a good job with this. We've had several dev blogs covering changes to faction warfare and PC. Foxfour and Nullarbor have been keeping people up to date and making changes based on feedback over the past couple months. |

I'm satisfied with my sp being spent so I don't need a respec, but it was a close thing. I grabbed 5 in operation and proficiency for my mass driver because I'm all but married to the weapon, but even if I'm willing to wait out the crap unnecessary nerf it got I empathize with more casual MD users. We weren't given any indication that the gun would be made crap as it wasn't talked aboutat all. I agree that another respec or a shift back to older weapon stats on some guns. |
