they're being returned
CCP Eterne wrote:Hey guys, a brief update. We will not be refunding any Militia BPOs, but rather returning them to your inventory.
A number of you brought up the very real possibility that people would get millions of AUR refunded because at one point they were selling for much less and after further consideration, we realized this would give a hugely unfair advantage to these people.
We hope everyone understands this decision.

Wow, so it's okay to take advantage of a market situation on the Eve side, but apparently we've declared the Dust side to be North Korea.
I didn't buy multiple copies per character, but I did buy them for two other characters that I no longer use.
Congrats CCP, you now have a dude that will only use boosters.
I will not use a single AUR for purchasing equipment in the market.

Sometimes market speculation pays off, sometimes it doesn't.
People stocked up on BPOs with the intent of selling on the open market, when it became available, not to hold on to for refund purposes. You still have your pile of junk. You haven't lost anything. If you bought more than you personally needed with the intent of selling later then you are engaged in speculation. CCP didn't twist your arm or force you to buy AUR then trick you into spending said AUR.
TL;DR: stfu, its not like you've lost anything. |

Agree'd. And comparing it to playing the market in eve is completely irrelevant. You guys who bought up the bpo's where seeking to profit from a ccp controlled market place. It had nothing to do with playing the market. You were told the prices were going up to balance gameplay, and realized that you could exploit the devs decisions. if it was a player market and prices went up because of a war, or a shortage of resources ect ect, then kudos. But because ccp changed a static price. .....
That said, ccp didnt realise their mistake untill you all blabbed about it. so well done for coming clean

I just thought I'd quote what I've written in the other thread, because I'm interested to see if others think I'm missing something.
Quote:Yes, the post that follows may sound like qq'ing! But I must assure people that I am not.
I just have big concerns about the claim that "we realized this would give a hugely unfair advantage to these people". Dust 514 has been promised to not be pay to win. IF you say that millions of AUR gives "a hugely unfair advantage", then you are saying that Dust 514 is pay to win.
Some people in the world are wealthy enough to easily purchase millions of AUR. To get 1 mil AUR is $500, which is for no doubt a few lucky-in-life Dust 514/EVE players easy to give up. Are you saying that these people are given "a hugely unfair advantage"? More precisely, a "hugely unfair advantage" that you are not willing to give to poorer players who happened to take a (very minimal) risk on a potential to get some of this fortune themselves that they can't match with real world funds?
I honestly don't mind the decision in general. I, like others, took the risk. If it pays off, I will be happy and gloat. If it doesn't, I've lost little. But the justification given here has very worrying implications. |

Here's the best part, all you guys getting your rocks off over this are just silly, lol. I was kinda hoping to get AUR, but I realized it was probably not going to happen, as it was too good to be true.
At any rate, I don't think ANYONE that bought AUR BPO's back in the day for cheap was expecting to get their AUR back, let alone become bazillionaires (mostly because NO ONE KNEW THIS RESPEC WAS COMING!). Most of us were thinking once the open market comes, we will sell this stuff to penny-pinching dweebs that whine about other people buying AUR when they can't get any.
So either way, we win. The only way CCP could truly screw us is if they made it so AUR items can't be sold, which would mean no boosters or BPO's for ISK... and that's just not fair to anyone.
So yuck it up, lol. I will admit, I was a little distraught when I read this, but hey. w/e. I didn't spend much AUR in the first place (only got a few extras of a handful of things), and like I said, I'll still probably be able to sell them, as was my initial idea. |

This shouldn't be much of an upset for anybody. The speculators who bought the militia BPO's were planning to sell them for ISK when the market opened. I don't think anybody was planning on getting an AUR profit when they originally bought the BPO's. So, they're still getting what they expected to get when they first made their speculations (as far as we know). |

The thing is people who bought more than they needed could only ever have been able to make an isk profit from the sale of surplus bpos on the market when it goes live.
This refund situation provided them the means to make an AUR profit which is a real money currency and against CCPs intent.
Those crying about this still have their original option to make an isk profit and are pretty dumb if they thought CCP would let them make profit AUR by means of a CCP price adjustment during beta. |
