CCP Eterne wrote: Additionally, we will be offering to all players that purchased the Mercenary Pack or Aurum Packs before January 22nd an optional full character reset with Mercenary Pack or Aurum reimbursement. If you choose an optional character reset, all character attributes, skills, skill points, and wallet will be reset to zero, but the Mercenary Pack(s) (including applicable Aurum) and/or Aurum pack(s) will be added back to the account for re-use within Uprising. Players will be given a limited period in which to choose the optional full character reset, and the dates for choosing this option will be announced at a later time. This will be the last reset of the Mercenary Pack and Aurum packs, and no further resets will be available.
I'm surprised people haven't jumped on this yet. Let me start by saying that I really don't care about my merc pack anymore because... well.. let me explain.
At first I believed it was logical and fair that people who bought the merc packs prior to Jan 22nd should be given the option to refund their merc pack and still keep their stats. So it came as a surprise that CCP is going ahead and giving you the option but will require you to have your stats reset if you accept the refund. I thought it was stupid of them. But then I realized something just now.
In my inventory I have a bunch of militia blueprint originals that I bought for dirt cheap during closed beta (about 50-100 AUR a piece) and I bought all of them for both infantry and vehicles. Since CCP said we will have the AUR of these items refunded to us at the price set during deployment of Uprising, that means I can potentially be refunded much more AUR into my wallet then I have spent on the BPO and any leftover UVTs I still have. And since I'm sure I'm not the only one who has this opportunity, it now makes sense as to why we are given these two options:
Option 1. Have your pre-open beta merc pack refunded to you but also suffer a complete reset.
Option 2. Keep your stats and everything you currently have, but don't get the pre-open beta merc pack refunded.
Think about it. For those of us who have a ton of militia BPOs that we bought for cheap, we will be getting back a lot of AUR and then some. If the merc pack was refunded without the reset, then there would be an exceedingly massive influx of AUR injected into the already-limited market we have now. That would be bad because that would mean getting a lot of undeserved AUR in return if we were given a chance to keep everything plus the merc pack.
But of course, some of you are probably wondering:
"But Maken, how many of us who bought the pre-open beta merc packs even bothered to use the AUR to get all of the BPOs and now waste it all on UVTs and boosters?"
I don't know, but I'm willing to wager it's a lot of us considering how practical it seems to use the AUR primarily to get all the BPOs and use those BPOs to save up on ISK. My brother was able to squirrel away up to 30+ million ISK right now and I get it has something to do with the excessive amount of BPOs he has in his inventory all thanks to the AUR given by the merc pack. |

I don't know how I could be banned if I'm not the one trying to troll anyone. I'm just pointing out something I noticed in relation to CCP's recent decision and the fact that I have a bunch of militia BPOs that I got for dirt cheap. |

You point out exactly why this move makes no sense. If it was about the AUR, the bpo refund would be FAR more painful to the bottom line. No, this is about sending a message, and we heard it. |

Oh yeah. I completely forgot that it also has something to do with the boosters bought with some of those merc packs. But that's a whole can of worms I'm not wanting to touch with a 39 1/2 foot pole. |

I like the fact that they've found a way to let us keep our SP instead of resetting everyone for commercial release. If you want a reset... knock yourself out. |

Haha, what a burn to those who were demanding and QQing about AUR refunds. CCP did EXACTLY as they should have and what many of us were suggesting for those whining about refunding AUR (I'm actually surprised CCP is doing this TBH).
So how many are going to get a full refund in return for being completely reset? Probably less than I can count on one hand (unless they activated the merc pack on an account that is no longer being used).
CCP, sometimes you really shine through and amaze the heck out of me, bravo! The solution you came up with is absolutely perfect in every way. I love it, basically CCP just said to all AUR refund whiners "You want a refund that you don't deserve? Fine, but you need to completely reset your character to zero first"
Now if we could only shut up all the heavy QQers with an equally awesome solution |

Guess what, I get my SP and my AUR, because of free ALTS! Go me. |
