For me I chose Amarr back when I first started playing EVE. When reading through the selections Amarr was the race that immediately jumped out to me - religious nuts with some of the most gorgeous looking cities, ships, armor, etc period. The sheer beauty of the Amarr craftsmanship is was captured me and led me to choose to be that race, plus the others just didn't appeal to me...
Minmatar - Stuff held together with duct tape - pass Gallente - Sounds like the USA - pass Caldari - Frozen scientists - pass Amarr - religious nuts with stuff crafted out of diamond encrusted gold silver and ebony - win |

Hahaha the exact reason I hate the Gallente, and work very hard to kill the Gallente! Also the main reason that I favour the Caldari as well, because the also hate the Gallente!
It just sucks though because the new Gallente Assault suit looks really freakin cool! (Still not as cool as the Amarr though) |

Funny story, possibly.
I have a friend who is a wicked EVE nerd, he had played quite a bit and was always trying to get me into it. So one day, I finally caved and did the trial. Well, I'm looking through the starter races, googling their ships and stuff, trying to find the one that stood out to me the most. At the time, it was the Amarr. They looked the most "advanced" to me, so I rolled an Amarr and went on my merry way.
Well, I finally get in chat with my buddy, and he starts giving me all sorts of ****, calling me a dirty slaver and god only knows what else (did I mention my friend is a fierce RP nerd as well?) Yea, I was unaware of the, uh...intimate connection between the Amarr and the Minmatar, of which my friend is fiercely loyal....
So, I went back and actually did some research on the various races, and decided on the Gallente; partly because of their ideals, primarily because of their focus on drones.
I also like their love of aesthetics. On that note, I just want to say one thing to the small crowd complaining about high heels on the female scout suit; that is a Gallente scout. Form and figure and beauty are all very important parts of their design and culture, so I think this makes perfect sense. Now, show me a Caldari or Minmatar female scout with high heels and I will laugh you off this forum. |

Exactly!
I mean hell, I'm an American and when I read the Gallente info I was like "did CCP really make a race of Americans or a race with American ideals?"
And yeah that Gallente assault suit looks pretty damn awesome, but the Amarr assault suit blew me away...I swear whenever they release the Amarr scout, it'll probably be orgasmic. |

I am sorry but i completly disagree with your description of Gallente and Caldari, think you mixed them both. Gallente as it stands is akin to Europe or a federated democratic France, Caldari is a perfect descrition of USA, corporations owning almost everything, dictating ruling and laws, just look at the major corporations of US and their lobbies, you got the Oil and Energy lobby, the gun and armament lobby, a handy few corporations control the entire country, no matter what your governement says (yes its called federal governement but almost all the politics are in the pocket of said so corporations). Pretty much the same reason plus two more.
5. Female leader. 6. Laz0rs.
I chose the Amarr Khanid in Dust 514 as well because I though we would get a kittening decent character creator like we have in Eve.

My pilot is Gallente but I've since become very attached to the Minmatar. They are the rebels, the underdogs and the extremely underrated. They may look like they are using scrapheaps of rust held together with duct tape and bailing-wire but their engineers, especially the Sebiestor, are some of the best in the cluster. Their ships have been dominating the skies lately and are being nerfed because of it.
Their design esthetic is a bit rough around the edges but it gets the job done. I see the clean lines of the other races and admire their work but in the end I always choose Minmatar when I can make it work. I like to think of the look of their gear as being a form of camouflage. It doesn't stand out. Hell, sometimes it looks like it's going to fall apart. |

The native Gallente actually were born from Tau Ceti French colonists. They're a bit Americanish in that they're a mix of a lot of cultures and identities, but they're certainly made out to be more European than anything.
Caldari on the other hand are a mix of corporate America with the traditions of Japanese culture.
Minmatar are essentially space Vikings.
Amarr is just, well crazy religious nuts is a good description, but their origins are with colonists from the Unified Catholic Church of Mankind, which strikes me as those southern American religious institutions.
I chose Gallente because they're awesome, although I tend to use a lot of Amarr ships and equipment, you can't fault their aesthetics. |

I totally get your description, but when it comes down to ideals and just the general "feel" of Gallente and Caldari, the Gallente just really makes me think "USA" for some reason. |

Actually, the Gallente and Caldari home planets are in the same system. It was the Gallente who first discovered the Caldari and made contact, it was the Gallente who first managed interplanetary flight and landed on Caldari Prime, which at that time was currently going through an industrial revolution.
I'm not saying the Caldari arn't advanced now, and they got a good deal with Pod technology given to them by the Jove (which is they only reason they weren't obliterated by the Gallente during the war). But the most advanced race second to the Jove? A lot of their current understanding of technology was given to them by the Gallente. |

Haha I actually picked the Gallente on the basis that they sounded like the most logical and reasonable race in New Eden. Amarr was tempting even though I abhorr the idea of a theocracy, and the minmatar and caldari never really interested me. |

Gallente: they have the most beautiful design keeps reminding me of a sleek sports car. (bit wierd they are armor so more like a relly slow but buff sports car )
oohh yeah and Amarr: religious nuts who used to hold slaves until the slaves fought their way out of it. that actually reminds me more of USA than gall does Caldari as the soviet hehe that's actually pretty good |

Basic space flight and warp drives were given to the Caldari by the Gallente. After the secession the Caldari became the most advanced nation by themselves plus during the Gallente-Caldari war the Gallente suffered more casualties the the Caldari even though the Federation was using advanced drone tech to fight most of their battles. This was before cloning tech was added to the pod pilot systems.
