For me I chose Amarr back when I first started playing EVE. When reading through the selections Amarr was the race that immediately jumped out to me - religious nuts with some of the most gorgeous looking cities, ships, armor, etc period. The sheer beauty of the Amarr craftsmanship is was captured me and led me to choose to be that race, plus the others just didn't appeal to me...
Minmatar - Stuff held together with duct tape - pass Gallente - Sounds like the USA - pass Caldari - Frozen scientists - pass Amarr - religious nuts with stuff crafted out of diamond encrusted gold silver and ebony - win |

That Minmatar heavy look like duct tape to you?
Nah, but it is lacking diamonds and glitter dust. |

Hahaha the exact reason I hate the Gallente, and work very hard to kill the Gallente! Also the main reason that I favour the Caldari as well, because the also hate the Gallente! It just sucks though because the new Gallente Assault suit looks really freakin cool! (Still not as cool as the Amarr though)
Exactly!
I mean hell, I'm an American and when I read the Gallente info I was like "did CCP really make a race of Americans or a race with American ideals?"
And yeah that Gallente assault suit looks pretty damn awesome, but the Amarr assault suit blew me away...I swear whenever they release the Amarr scout, it'll probably be orgasmic. |

Minmatar - Stuff held together with duct tape - pass Gallente - Sounds like the USA - pass Caldari - Frozen scientists (also reminds me of the Soviet Union) - pass Amarr - religious nuts with stuff crafted out of diamond encrusted gold silver and ebony - win I am sorry but i completly disagree with your description of Gallente and Caldari, think you mixed them both. Gallente as it stands is akin to Europe or a federated democratic France, Caldari is a perfect descrition of USA, corporations owning almost everything, dictating ruling and laws, just look at the major corporations of US and their lobbies, you got the Oil and Energy lobby, the gun and armament lobby, a handy few corporations control the entire country, no matter what your governement says (yes its called federal governement but almost all the politics are in the pocket of said so corporations). Just my 0.2 isk
I totally get your description, but when it comes down to ideals and just the general "feel" of Gallente and Caldari, the Gallente just really makes me think "USA" for some reason. |

The Gallente of all races is the least American of all in matters outside of political system. If there was a region of the real world that I would liken the Gallente, as an American myself, it would be the Europeans, especially those with languages with roots on the Latin language. Gallente philosophy is very much like Renaissance era France, or Classical era Rome and Greece. They value the arts and are very anthropocentric as a society. They value freedom of expression and liberty, and that may sounds like a very American thing, but those concepts already existed in Europe for a long time... much much longer than what the USA has been in existence. Gallente society is generally the least "pro war" out of all four races, and generally have the least amount of people willing to join their military ranks (which only increase after they find themselves in a mess that may or may not be their fault).
The Caldari of all races are the most American of all, mainly because of their highly corporate culture. But they are also share a lot of Asian characteristic, especially their sense of duty, demand for efficiency and their deeply-rooted traditionalism.
The Amarr, they're not religious nuts, and they're more easily viewed as the Medieval era Catholic Church. In this case however, the Pope, which is the leader of the Church and the Church only, is replaced by a political figure that is also the closest religious being to their god that is alive. Even in the Medieval era, the Catholics had a raging hard-on for gold, and they showed this very prominently by building the most impressive structures of their time, and many of them still stand to this very day. They also have their version of "extremists", which would REALLY be the religious nuts of the game, but they're a minority that are not aligned to Amarr, and even the Amarr want to get rid of these people.
In any case, to bring myself back to topic, I'd have to say that I picked the Gallente. My original choice was first the Amarr, mainly because I liked their ship design (who doesn't like gold and really shiny stuff, really?). But then I read their bio and saw that they were heavily religious influenced. I had already been playing countless games and even MMOs where I would play as a religious-themed character, mainly involving Paladins, Priests or Necromancers. So I decided to play something that may have come more as a hypocrite, or at least that would seem like it of the general population (talking in-game here).
Dude my "understanding" isn't meant to be taken seriously...this is just what I came up with off the top of my head the first time I read the race descriptions like four or five years ago...in short, I'm joking around.

Quote:As for the Gallete they seemed like too much of the obvious choice to me. I assumed there would be a lot of American playing this game and that a lot of them would go "Hey that sounds like us, Mericuh F*** Yeah." (I eventually saw it in a different light) I didn't want to be a part of that so the decision was made.
That is exactly what I'm talking about.
Yeah yeah yeah they may be of European decent yadda yadda yadda, but I swear when I first read the full description of the Gallente in EVE five years ago it just screamed MURICA! F*** YEAHHHHHH! I mean hell, look at their insignia. |

Which one fits modern America more? Yeah but the policies the gallente go by sound a lot like the policies that we Americans think we go by, freedom, equality and justice. And were I am you don't always notice the uber capitalism when your only choices for groceries are Walmart or Brookshires.
Oh my god, thank you for laying that out for everyone. Yes the Gallente may have European roots, but their beliefs as stated above fall inline with American beliefs - think "with liberty and justice for all." |
