My choice was made because I had read "EVE The Empyrean Age." It was a great read and let me get to know the races on a pretty good level. If you haven't read the book and don't like SPOILERS don't read the below.
I liked the Minmatar for their sense of honor which I share and the fact that they are the underdog of the 4 races. They also followed the policy I take into shooters and RTS's. Which is to hit the enemy where they are weak, do as much damage as possible and get the hell out (hopefully before their buddies call for help).
The Caldari allowed Heth into power (even if they were manipulated by the broker) so I couldn't support him even if it was to detriment of the Caldari people. They may have been kicked from their Homeworld but they did not have to take the whole system hostage just to keep it. If they could not have appealed to Gallente courts then they would have just had more ammo to use to make the Gallente look bad, but at least they would have tried to get it peacefully.
The Ammar were portrayed as pretty much crazy (but brave) zealots and I just couldn't see myself working for them. (rather than release a few of the rediscovered tribe members they decided to annihilate them). This rings especially true with the "other" pretty much running Jamyl's mind. I also didn't want to work with a group that enslaved an entire race for over a hundred years.
As for the Gallete they seemed like too much of the obvious choice to me. I assumed there would be a lot of Americans playing this game and that a lot of them would go "Hey that sounds like us, Mericuh F*** Yeah." (I eventually saw it in a different light) I didn't want to be a part of that so the decision was made.
In hindsight I still think the decision I made was the right one. |

Yeah but the policies the gallente go by sound a lot like the policies that we Americans think we go by, freedom, equality and justice. And were I am you don't always notice the uber capitalism when your only choices for groceries are Walmart or Brookshires. |
