I'm not sure if this has been suggested and/or shot down before, searched the first three pages, didn't see anything, so if it has, sue me.
Basically, the idea is simple: Allow us to hack manned vehicles on the opposing team.
Currently, we can hack unmanned vehicles on the opposing team, not receiving any warpoints. I propose that CCP allows us to hack manned vehicles, and potentially receive warpoints for hacking and hack assistance. The hacked vehicle then ejects the driver and any passengers within the vehicle upon completion of the hack. The warpoints receive
This would have the benefit of creating a new role, especially for suits with the hacking bonus. Alternatively, make it so this can only be done when a certain module is equipped, such as the codebreaker module. This makes the codebreaker module slightly more useful in non-objective based maps such as Ambush.
Balance-wise, I think the fact that the vehicle is manned is balance enough, since it's pretty much impossible to hack a moving LAV, and any HAV/Dropship dumb enough to sit still for the duration of the hack deserves to get his vehicle hacked. Another form of balance would be restricting this ability to a certain module, as mentioned above.
Ideally, it could work something like this, assuming 15 seconds hacking time for a single person with the codebreaker module and no dropsuit bonuses: 1 hacker = 15 sec 2 hackers = 12 sec 3 hackers = 10 sec 4 hackers = 8.5 sec 5 hackers = 7.5 sec 6 hackers and upwards = 7 sec
Factoring in suit bonuses, assuming everyone had them and 1 codebreaker module fitted would cap the hacking time at 5 seconds with 6 or more hackers. Mercs without a codebreaker module fitted are unable to assist in the hacking process. Also manned vehicle hacking does not take into account any additional hacking speed bonuses, beyond the first codebreaker module if more than 1 codebreaker is fitted.
With the introduction of racial dropsuits, minmatar suits with the hacking bonus could have a bonus to vehicle hacking (both manned and unmanned)? (Dirty thieving minnies)
In addition to additional role created, this would also encourage infantry/anti-infantry support for HAVs if facing down a squad of these mercs. The downside to this is that a combination of suits + mods + light weapons may seem OP on certain gametypes, but this could probably be tweaked to make it balanced.
Have not thought this through or crunched the numbers, just throwing this out there, so feedback/constructive criticism is welcome. Trolling and flaming with no content also welcome, and thanks for the bump. |
