If any of the devs can enlighten us upon this. I herd there was gonna be a new character customization. Are we going to be able to run our characters through the new customization?
Like if we picked amar heavy, but now think the minmatar heavy looks cooler, and has skills we are more into, can we swap our race? and still be able to keep all of our skill points?
I am not sure if it will matter anyway, but I am sure a lot of people are wondering about something like this. |

No. I was told that to see this character creator would require creating a new character. |

I don't think there should be starting classes, considering the inequality in allocated SP and starter fits we currently have. New players have no idea how the roles play so they can't really make an informed decision before playing anyway. A system that has you re-roll characters because you made a mistake and picked Arbitrator/Sentinel instead of Enforcer/Artisan is a bad system.
I'm planning on writing a huge post about the New Player Experience (NPE) after I have some time with Uprising.
As to your speculation; I don't think so. |

I am not sure if it will matter anyway, but I am sure a lot of people are wondering about something like this. First, the Minmatar heavy is not coming for uprising. Second, you characters race makes zero difference to the skills and suits you can use, and zero difference to how effectively you can use them, the only difference it makes is RP stuff. Basically the new character creation thing is exactly the same as the one we have now, but with a new, console friendly, UI - which means that we won't be able to redo our characters (I don't know if thats even possible) because it would make makes zero difference to how effective our characters are. |

Do consider that some people are interested in the appearance besides functionality.
I for one am looking foward to a character creator system similar to EVE Online, i-Śm tired of this helmet. |

Same here. I don't care if we could only customize our heads. WE NEED THIS!
I really want to customize my portrait. This helmet is, indeed, getting on my nerve already.

TBH instead of these classes that give uninformed newbies the illusion that they're stuck with a class (a loaded choice), having race determine your starting skills and load out would be a more powerful tool.
If picking Amarr gave you a starting 'Standard Amarr Medium Frame A-I' fit - complete with the preferred modules of that race and the skills to use it - you'd get less of an impression that you were restricted to using Assault suits with ARs and Shields because you picked Enforcer and that's what the class choice told you you were going to be good at.
Aesthetics and race is a much more powerful and flexible tool than classes, because people tend to want to swap classes after they get bored with it (classes get old, aesthetics and philosophy much less so).
Getting ahead (hah) of myself again though. |

I love how CCP says that you can pretty much get to where you were at in the current build once the respec happens and then shows that is a complete falsehood with things like this.
With having no specialization bonuses and added layers to the skill tree, we are probably going to be at 50% of what we are at right now. Like your proto suit? Lulz, back to advanced for you... |

Lack of specializations means we have ALL of our SP at our disposal instead of the last 200,000 or so at creation. What it DOES mean is they're probably removing the lion's share of the starter fits (as per alot of people's complaints over starter swarms and starter snipers) forcing the use of ISK if you want to be anything other than a basic assault. At least, that's what I'm getting from it. |

Yes, it's a temporary step backwards. But it's a necessary one.
The next logical step is fleshing out the rifles and pistols for every race so we can get proper racial starter suits (standard tier, all necessary skills supplied at character creation - I did the maths, it works with ~250k SP leftover), then eventually replacing militia gear with the Weapons Lab. |
