I don't see how having "more skills" will compensate for the lackluster tanks that are inbound. AV is insanely powerful right now and what we get to counter is vehicles with even less defencive capabilities. I don't think tanks should go around unimpeded, but the current balance is far too lopsided towards infantry. It's tough enough that on most maps it's tough for tanks to get into areas to support objectives. What ends up happening because of these 2 factors is HAVs get left to Railgun Sniping. Now instead of giving us a tank that has the defencive capabilities to handle AV or to help balance AV so it would smoke everything it sees, we get tanks which are even weaker and several times more expencive. I don't expect to see a large number of HAVs being fielded. And they will probably stick to Gunloggis and Madraugars. And to make it clear, it does take a lot of skill to field a tank that isn't Railgun Sniping and not get pulverized very shortly. As soon as a tank is on the field it suddenly becomes everyone's mission to take it down. Between dodging AV, OBs, and maybe even an enemy Railgun Sniper, it's tough to stay alive if you don't know what you're doing.

Tanks have been extremely powerful in Closed Beta where a couple tanks could easily wipe the map. Then before Open Beta launched Swarm Launchers were made Light Weapons and poped up everywhere aswell as Forge Guns got a damage boost. The issue as I see it at the moment is CCP is afraid to buff tanks or to weaken AV by much because of how terribly overpowered they were in Closed Beta. And I agree they should be careful with the changes. Too much swing in favour of tanks and it will be imbalanced in favour of them and I don't want that either. And while the tanks we have now do work, albiet somewhat less effective then they should be for the price, we're getting the Surya and Sagarris replaced with tanks that are even weaker then the standard Madraugar and Gunloggi. I wouldn't have mind if they simply added them into the mix, or even gave the Maurauders defencive bonuses as opposed to offencive ones. This would then present an HAV grouping where you would use Enforcers for DPS and Marauders for tanking damage. You have to keep in mind that they are pricing these tanks to be very powerful machines. As it stands right now, thier gun is very powerful but they don't have the longevitiy to take a few hits to utilize that powerful gun. The Surya and Sagarris are so far the closest thing we have to a proper tank. When we face a well fit Sagarris for example, we don't just get a single guy to pull AV, we need a combined effort to deal with it. But it still goes down when you get small group of AV on the tank. Ultimately we'll see how this plays out in Conquest and Faction Warfare where more co-ordination is expected then the mass amount of Instant Battle going on.

It is better to be bitter and negative about what's coming so you can be pleasantly surprised, than to be upbeat and positive and then be emotionally crushed. As you can see, I'm a very happy bunny.. We've seen the stats and the majority of us have been here long enough to know that CCP isn't good with Vehicle v Infantry balancing, I hope it's not as bad as we make out, but I fear it will be.

Sure those elite, expensive fully Proto HAVs probably won't be as tough as they were. Cheaper tanks, such as <3 Soma <3 might well have been significantly buffed in comparison to the higher end tanks.
