Think of it as having weapons configured to your own biometrics. If someone picks it up its a useless hunk of scrap. With nano-scale technology, even bullets can become inert if the tech was placed in the casing or magazine. |

I am not sure I like this.
While I admit that it would be awfully convenient to be able to loot corpses for ammo I just see this stripping value from logis.
Weapons should be bio-metrically programmed for their user, but if we were to allow people to pick them up off the battle field after a successful hack (and only if they have the required skills to use it) I think they should suffer some chance of critical failure. This would motivate people to still rely on their logis for support but allow them to immediately salvage a compromised weapon in a tight spot if necessary. |

I like it. Maybe after hacking. At least for ammo and grenades. Weapons and equipment should stay. But then there is this:

Heck, knock yourself out and read an interview with a Dev. Salvage is what you are talking about. it is in (or almost out) of development and the odds they are going to change it so you can pick up stuff is ... not likely. and thisKalOfTheRathi wrote:Dumb idea. Do you plan on replacing the SP/ISK/AUR Logi Bros have spent on Nano Hives?
What happens when someone is waiting for Revive? The Red stands over them and starts picking their not quite corpse clean? Ain't gonna happen. Finally, when a clone dies the Entire thing Disintegrates or hadn't you noticed that?
Imagine your perfect weapon being picked off you then some Logi Bro revives you. Now you stand around without a primary weapon and if the Red was fast enough not even a side arm. Grenades too. Just you, a walking target, heading to a Supply Depot to refit everything. Better hope the Red doesn't like your helmet or you could die in the arbitrary atmospheres of whatever planet you were fighting on. Not to mention if the HAV drivers have already blown up all the Supply Depots. Then you get to commit suicide just to get a weapon to use. Sounds like a perfect Rage Quite solution to me.
As far as picking up items from the Fallen there is a solution that is Already Planned. It is a Salvage system that works like EVE Online. Every item in the battle is tested to see if if survives or not. If it Does survive it is put into a pool and distributed after the battle. The current Salvage is a place holder until the proper one is in place.

or at least be able to scavenge ammo and nades. Ammo is one thing, but picking up weapons you didn't spend the SP on to use? No.
why you say it like that? aur does exactly what you just said. for instance a person can use a tank with no sp by simply purchasing aur.. meanwhile i had to put 5 mil sp into it to use it.. |

How would you implement this? You'd either be rewarding new players with something they haven't earned, or punishing them even more for being new players.
Option 1: Allow anyone to steal any weapon. New player shows up to see the end of an epic Proto vs. Proto fight, and either finishes the enemy suit or just loots the corpse when the teammate does the job. He now has a Duvolle even though he hasn't got the relevant skills to use it. The game still let him pick up a weapon he doesn't know how to handle, and it's totally functional in his hands. Sounds fair? No? Didn't think so. Next option?
Option 2: Limit players to weapons they're skilled for. New player manages to legitimately beat a Proto player, 1 vs. 1, and loots the corpse. "I'm sorry, this guy's weapon is too awesome for you to use. Try stealing from someone on your level. Even though you already proved you can kick the kitten out of this guy's super-weapon. Sounds fair? Didn't think so.
Scavenge for ammo? What if you're using a Scrambler Rifle and the other guy has an AR? Do you still get to collect ammo? What if you both have your primaries out, and they don't match, but you both have SMGs as sidearms? Can you loot the SMG ammo and not the AR ammo?
What if you're a Logi and have almost-full ammo, but no Nanohives? If you kill a Sniper who brought Nanohives, can you steal his Nanohive? If you're running a cheap Logi fitting with a Militia Repair Tool, and loot a corpse with an Advanced model, can you upgrade? Will this looting take your PG/CPU limitations into account? |

Doesn't it destroy itself after the owner dies? That's why the suit disappears when you die. Why don't you just steal my suit and my sp while you're at it. Greedy ass noobs. Want my KLO-5 Scrambler pistol that killed 3 of your squad, including a shotgun and mass driver? SKILL INTO IT NOOB. |

Yes, the bodies disintegrate after death, but that's what this game is all about y'all. Hell, it's in the title! It's all about the nanite dust!
This means that there needs to be a new class of equipment developed:
Salvaging Equipment: Militia Level: Bare Hands - Quick, scoop some up and shove it into your pocket. Standard Level: Mason Jar - Scoop up the nanite dust into this fine looking mason jar. Advanced Level: Dust Pan - Lets mercs better sweep up the nanite dust of fallen enemies and comrades. Prototype Level: Dirtdevil - Quickly sucks up all that nanite dust in just a couple seconds. |
