Many of you have probably seen the EVR demo that CCP whipped up in a few short weeks, and this has probably already been discussed, but in case it hasn't I thought I'd take a moment to pose this question: In what ways could this be integrated into EVE/Dust?
Discuss :D
My idea: I think this would make a really nice free-to-play PC game. They could add a RC drone variant to EVE that can be piloted remotely by players of EVR which are far smarter and stronger than normal drones (explain that the lack of AI equipment allows for more weapon systems). Alternatively, they could use this to control the fighter jets in Dust (or maybe even both!) but this cross-platform interaction may be to much to ask of the technology. |

I'd love to use this to control all my flying vehicles in DUST. Talk about First Person and immersion! |

I'd love to use it on the ground! Imagine sprinting from cover in a straight line to the objective while you look around for potential threats. Amazing. FPS games have always felt to focused, to tunnel visiony. This would change all that. Gods, this **** would be boss! |

I think I said this already more than five times in the past 24 hours, but it bears repeating...
If DUST 514 gets ported to the PS4, and adds support for the Oculus (given that you don't need to have Sony create anything special for this), then you can just integrate the whole EVR thing into DUST and make everything that much grander. Add in the PlayStation Move and you could do wonders with VR.
Obviously, DUST would have to be running at 60 FPS at all situations. |

I think that something like this will be better suited for the PC realm, at least at first. I enjoy Dust514 but not enough to go out and buy a $600 piece of equip ment for a small part of the game. There is little doubt in my mind that this is the future of gaming.
The real quection is how do you put people with technology like this in a game room full of people with TV's and controllers and let everyone have a good time? |

What I would like to see is EVR being it's own stand alone game, but still affecting the New Eden universe - kinda like Dust.
Basically, at first, there would be three game modes, which are basically the same as in Uprising + PvE.
The first is basically a practice mode, you and a squadron of NPCs (or other players) vs more NPCs.
The second is a simple instant battle, random people, no real consequences.
The third is FW, you and your squadron pick a side and a battle, using an interface similar to the Uprising starmap, and fight for air superiority in the upper atmosphere above a district where Dust mercs are currently fighting - the better you do, the more 'warpoints' you earn (this is not based on kills per se, but rather overall control of the airspace). These points can then be spent on staffing runs on the district bellow (potential target areas highlighted by a Dust merc, but the EVR pilot doesn't have to stick to these). Of course, since Dust merc would basically be sitting ducks otherwise, there will be AA installations on the maps that are npc controlled like null cannons but can be hacked as fast as normal turrets - the idea being that controlling all the AA will make strafing runs by the other team pretty damn difficult and risky, but not impossible.
The reasoning behind having strafing runs tied to a sides EVR performance, rather than Dust, is to address a problem with the current orbital bombardments where the losing team has little chance to earn the bombardment that could help turn things around. Instead, assuming they are winning the EVR battle, they can now rush the AA, and get some strafing runs to clear out objectives.
There is of course potential for Integration into PC, where Dust mercs could issue contacts for EVR pilots to patrol the airspace over which the battle is taking place. But for that we might need actual player created battle contacts first.
Anyway, Three games, one battle - if anyone is crazy enough to do it, it's CCP. |

I think it would make sense to make this into a PC game that is separate from the Eve client but still connected to the Tranquility server. Of course, there are great examples of combat simulators that CCP can learn from.
Examples:
Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3 featured a very solid structure of upgrading a pilot's rank as well as the aircraft and weapons fitted. The more missions you complete and more enemy planes you shoot down, the more points you can use to upgrade your plane.
But then you have to consider what the pilot will be doing in his free time when he is not on his spaceship shooting targets. What will the pilot be doing during transit sitting inside the fighter carrier or mothership? What economic impact can the pilot make both inside the cockpit and outside? What incentives are there for the pilot to work with an Eve player? Etc. |

Halador don't be dense, imagine controlling a dropship with one of those, or course we'd have to get a rotatable view for first person (which would be nice anyway). But can you imagine how awesome it would be to fly with those things. |

EvE has one man fighters already with npc pilots, these are what was being flown in demo.
Just adding evr player piloted fighters launched from carriers, pos runways, and surface infrastructure runways would be a great bridge game fitting between eve and dust.
Possibly allowing eve pilot and dust merc to dogfight each other within the third game, if we were allowed to train skills for the fighter with char from both current games?
EVR would also be awesome for eve interceptors or dust fighters as an alternate control option. |

the occulus ONLY CONTROLS THE CAMERA... ergo you cannot control a drop ship with it... but if you could somehow hook the pilot controlled turret to the occulus (option to do so under vehicle controls sort of set up), then it sure would be boss :).
the occulus in every demo i have seen of it, controls the camera, the movement controls are still bound to your controller or kb/m, this opens up the possibility for snipers to set scope, but be able to pull the camera out of the scope and look around ... before just "looking down the scope again" ,, without moving the guns position. etc etc etc
The PS4 Will Support VR goggles, as Sony are producing their own, sadly much inferior VR head gear for the PS and general digital entertainment needs. If CCP are expressing interest in the Occulus, then you might be able to extrapolate a few conclusions based entirely outside of fact.
