I would say, from experiance, notes would be out the day of or a day either side of the release. |

This thread is awesome. CCP epic FAILs so often that it has become second hand/common place to the point of being comical. |

Hmmm...
Sony EU: Singstar icon locked on XMB with no option to remove/hide. US and Japan get "hide" option for the same icon in their version of the same firmware update.
Customers complain, and Sony's official rep makes fun of the people who don't like it and makes it clear that nothing will be changing. Customers keep complaining, and either have the posts pre-moderated on the PS Blog, or ignored on the official forums. Multiple discussion threads about the issue have remained current on the EU forums, and have received no response from any Sony representative at any point. The most recent response was more than 2 system updates ago, from the person who got everyone so worked up in the first place.
Adam Orth: Promoting the idea that the new Xbox will require "always on" internet connection on Twitter. He was directly insulting to people who tried to argue that it was a bad idea, and came up with the worst possible justifications for it. He ended up "quitting" - because he totally wasn't fired. Nope. Not at all. Sounds like Microsoft are (somehow) looking more customer-focused than Sony right now...
Paul Christoforo: If you don't know this story, look the name up. Seriously. Just... wow. I'd try to explain, but that would be even longer than the next one's going to be...
Ubisoft: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood multiplayer was great on release. There were a couple of patches leading up to the final DLC release in March. They fixed most of the problems with the game. But then, under weight of a wave of complaints about "slow matchmaking", they decided that it was a good idea to "fix" it.
In spite of competent advice from every forumgoer who actually knew anything about netcode or networking in general, they decided to loosen the game's ping tolerances, allowing for more laggy games. For about the first 2 weeks after the patch, it worked - matchmaking was a little faster. But because of the lag issues, huge numbers of players left. The smaller playerbase resulted in matchmaking slowing back down to where it had been before the patch. It also resulted in the lag becoming more consistent because the thinned numbers effectively caused a more scattered playerbase.
In subsequent games, this issue hasn't been addressed, in spite of the (obvious and provable) fact that the series has been consistently increasing in sales, and the multiplayer in particular has significantly increased its playerbase, meaning a tighter matchmaking algorithm would allow for better gameplay WITHOUT the significant increase in matchmaking times.
It doesn't help that, at the time, almost everyone who complained about the problems waited for the 48 hours the company's support team promised a response would arrive within, then got a message advising that "your support ticket has been solved", at which point most of them gave up because they had no response but the automated closing of their complaint. The majority of people who DID try to press the issue got nothing for another 48 hours, then saw another automated "your support ticket has been solved" message. According to Ubisoft, there was "no impact" as a result of this failure by them to address legitimate complaints. It prompted one of their forum regulars to kick up so much of a fuss that they (supposedly legitimately, although I've heard otherwise and can't find a valid reason given anywhere public) ended up banning him from the forums for trying to raise awareness of the issues with the support process.
Maxis/EA: SimCity. Again, the companies and game involved should be sufficient informarion for anyone who actually has any involvement in the wider gaming community to know this story.
CCP: Uhhh... yeah. Not so much. Sorry. |
