I was reading the forums and it sounds like both shield control and field mechanics are both going to turn into something different and the 5% bonus to shield/armour skills will be gone.
I know there will be certain suits to get the bonus but not a general blanket skill for all suits
Is this true? |

Is this true? You're asking the forums about something you read on the forums? Ughh... can you at least show us the post where you read that? |

Actually it is more just hearsay from my corpmates..... I have been trying to search for a solid answer but so far nothing concrete, Jenza was asked the question in a post about what was learned at gabfest but it was not answered. |

I hopes that's not true, but if it is... Dammit CCP! We told you to add more passive skills, not less! Should I kiss Combat Engineering and Circuitry goodbye too?
Hello CoD 514!
This better not be your way of making things "fairer" for new players!

Well, looking back on the leaked skill books, most of the passives are connected to whatever suit you're doing, but there are passive skills too. Nothing to be worried about. Just a lot of 5th party rumor hot air being blown through the forums. |

Personally, I'm a believer that there should be no passive boosts to hp or damage in competitive shooters. So i'd be fine with this. It also doesn't really matter because in the long run everyone will have all the same skills so they'll just cancel each other out. That's why it's better to use suits/weapons/modules as the primary delivery device for passive bonuses, because you can't equip every item at once. I think this is what CCP is trying to do and it should make the game better. |

I can all but guaranty this is not true. I was mathing some screen shots from fanfest of the fitting windows and came up with the numbers 72/72/73/72 for each complex shield extender added to the Assault CK.0 (caldari proto assault). While complex shield mods could have gotten buffed to 72HP, 72 also matches a 20% increase in shield capacity and is the only explanation for the errant 73hp increase on one of the CSE(bonus got rounded up instead of down.)

ALL HAIL THE POWER OF MATHING!! So, the passives are going to affect modules too? That's pretty godly.

It's kind of hard to speak to such a situation because there's so many things that go into it. Such as a duv without SS should be much less if a threat. Also, complex shield mods still account for the majority of passively boosting shields. Basically there's so much balancing going on and much more that is probably needed, but in the long run I am in favor of lessening passive boosts through skills and potentially giving more items small passive attributes.
With changing sharpshooter and weaponry, and giving racial suit bonuses, it appears this is what CCP is going for.
Edit: just to be clear, when I talk about lessening passives, I mean mostly just for hp and dmg. |

it kinda is in a way making it fairer for new players
But squad play will trump all in the end
but in all honesty what if you where that new player learning how the game works is a challenge in it self and then when you finally figure it out you find out that every one you are up against has 25% more amour and shield and is able to fit 25% more into there suit fit complex mods and they are running suits with more slots than you with the addition of proto weps (but proto vs militia weps are not much diff atm) |

If I was a new player and that was the case, then I'd wish there were tiered instant battle modes, or better match making. Flattening the game is fair and "balanced", it's also boring AF! |

adding onto this if the guy with the militia Duvolle had any brain he would also get the passive bonus for assault specialization - should give him more damage he also gets a bonus 10% damage from weaponry Lv 5 - if he runs proto suit then he can stack more damage mods
(but he will be more or be less one shot kill) since you will have a complex shield mod for ever complex damage mod he has

Yeah, I'm not in game right now but a logi dropsuit has 125 base shields. With lvl 5 shield control, it's 156.25. If I put 3 complex extenders on my A-Series I have 354.25 and not 403.75 shields. Also, if shield extenders were affected by shield control, a complex extender would give you +82.5 shields. I'm only adding decimals because they obviously don't get rounded down. Anyone who's been down to 0 armor can speak for that. |
