I have two ideas for not only informing players on the current events relating to planetary conquest, but also as a way to make players aware about this persistent MMO aspect of the game so they will know this is not just another shooter.
A banner on the top of the screen in the MQ that shows news of which corps are fighting over which districts, the outcomes of those battles, and which districts now belong to which corps.
A leaderboard of corporations based on how many districts owned.

No really, Kagehoshi.
The Uprising game play example showed the use of the Star Map and that has all the data you want. When the API is released, then I would say yes. I would prefer it not to run on the PS3. Let me see it via the web. Not taking any processing power or network bandwidth from my game.
Edit: I forgot you did mention the web. However, I never access social web sites. Facebook in particular. kr |

I know about the star map, but there should be a quick easy way to get news without having to check regions, constellations, solar systems, and planets, etc. The star map doesn't tell you who it was captured from, or give you reports on the battles, it only tells you the current ownership.
There is no reason why there shouldn't be a district ownership leaderboard. |

This makes sense and would be awesome.

This is called the "Starmap".
At the top level, it shows the entirety of inhabited space in New Eden, broken down by region with colour-coding to show how much of each region is controlled by the various factions (player and NPC) active in the region. When you select a region, it zooms in on the region and shows the relevant data for that region, broken down by constellation this time. When you select a constellation, it zooms in to show the individual systems, and if you open a system up it shows the planets in the system.
Very clearly visible information on who controls what, where, and how powerful each group is. |
