Other MMO's had trophies like Defiance and MaG, so I don't see why not. |

I think trophies are a requirement under Sony's rules. I also think that the amount of people that give a rats rear end about them will be quite small due to the simple fact that causing tears, loss, and owning large tracts of land is trophy enough for some. Realistically if a game needs to slap in achievements and trophies to get the players to play it then either the company is going for lowest common denominator people (not the brightest spoons in the drawer or people that really are incapable of achieving nothing in real life) or the gameplay is just that bad that no one would touch it without it. |

Trophies add replayability to a game and this works best on short single-player games that are 6+ hours long in story (getting the most of your monies worth)
But I don't see a point in adding replayability to something as big and progressive as Dust so it's unecessary, especially when Dust is F2P.
But then again I suppose it's another audience it targets... 'The Trophy Hunters'. |

No final version will exist unless game dies. A future version will have trophies. I heard a rumor next build, but couldn't find dev confirmation.
I think they are tracking more stats then they are showing us now, so we may update one day and just see 10-15 trophies pop up for stuff we did months ago. Would probably freak people out a bit if they get game on launch day and see people with a lot of trophies already. Might be a hint to them others have been playing for some time already. |

This. At some point (don't remember exactly when, few years ago), they decided all new games were required to have trophies. They also made guidelines for how many and which types of trophies games could use (i.e. no platinums in minis). As far as I know the only exception is that a F2P game that also offers a subscription can make trophies subscription players only, and open betas don't need them until release.
So it's a safe bet that we'll see trophies on 5/14 |

I'd like to see them them implement at least some of the trophies in a similar manner to how certificates were implemented in eve.
If your not familiar with eve certificates, basically its a collection of skills recommended for a specific role at 4 different levels of difficulty. So if you've trained all the skills for an elite sniper, now you get a trophy and you can use that as proof for corp applications etc.
Eve also has a custom medal system, that lets corps design there own medals and assign them as they see fit. I wonder if that would be possible in on the PS3? Obviously they would be classified as hidden trophies and not count towards the platinum. |

Free games not only don't have trophies, but by Sony mandate, CAN'T have trophies except when they involve a subscription. You HAVE to subscribe for trophies to unlock in DCUO, FreeRealms and any other free-to-play game. You HAVE to pay for the "upgrade" on a trial version game, even though some trials add the game to your trophy list.
The closest to an exception is when you consider "free" PS+ games, which you only get for free through the PS+ sub, and would otherwise have to buy. |

There are some free games on the PS store that have trophies one that comes to mind is jet pack joyride which was a mobile game and ported to ps3 / psvita. I believe the rules for trophies were implemented in 2008 and are forced on any FULL GAME whether it be disc based or digital |
