People seem confused about how the new system will work so i'll explain it here
You will train a base dropsuit skill that will give you access to racial light, medium, and heavy dropsuit skills.
After picking one, in this case Amarr medium, and you train it to level 5 you will then be given access to new skills. Amarr logistics, and Amarr assault.
So instead of constantly becoming harder and harder to kill, you will eventually reach a plateau and will have to specialize somehow |

Kazeno Rannaa wrote:Everyone should figure that the suit skill tree may be very similar in structure and attenuation as that of the pilot's skill tree for the ships in EVE. A person skills up the command skill first which will unlock the different size suits (depending on the skill level of dropsuit command) then the size specific skilling (light, medium, heavy) and then the specialization (assault, scout, logi, sentinel).
The first choice comes in size, then race, then role specialization.
At least that is what I gathered from the keynote.
As for the different colors for the suits, it seemed from the keynote that the different roles along with the different tech level of the dropsuit will designate the color scheme of the suit one gets. Again this is conjecture from the what CCP has given us.
The color changes are similar to the differences of T2 ships in EvE. It seems there will be value in recognizing the suit variant simply by its frame and color scheme.
Also to be clear light and heavy will work the same way
Dropsuit -> racial light -> Scout, pilot
Dropsuit -> Racial Heavy -> Sentinel, commando |

As far as the changes to heavies go it seems that the Sentinel would be just that. A dropsuit that is a fantastic defender, but its lack of mobility makes it a bad choice for attacking. However the commando, with dual Light weapon slots and a faster movement speed would be the specialization for the more "active" heavy. I like the idea that all the proposed specializations at this point give every suit class 2 distinctly different options |
