From an EVE perspective, the elitism would be more related to the "complexity" side of the universe. The FPS market is usually habited by younger, anxious, "i want it now" people, and the forums show a lot of this behaviour. Instead of looking at the big pictures, a lot of pepole tend to go to the immediate point and be frustrated/whinny.
I-¦m not advocating for difficulty, but i don-¦t like dumbed down games. (I fine example of this is what happened to X-com). And it-¦s typical of youth to not have the patience to understand complexity if it-¦s not spoonfed to them.
The Empires saw the rising of Capsuleers, now the Capsuleers will the the rise of Clone Soldiers. All is good, and i-¦m waiting to blow ships with ground instalations, and raid capital ships to extract tears from capsuleers =)
BTW: It was not only the fanfest crowd, did you se ethe ammount of posts compaining about the new features? I watched the presentations with excitment, and i see a bunch of people complaining already here !
Only RPG sissies want spoonfed. That's why the D&D bunch is on here screaming not to 'nerf' things when in fact, the entire game to this point has been NERF to anyone who is a FPS enthusiast. That's what fanboys like about it, This build catered just to those so called 'elite' that get on here and defend weaknesses in the game because it was giving them some kind of 'nerf' advantage.
I can't speak for the age and maturity of the people you are calling whiners, but it shows a lack of maturity on your part to try and stereotype the FPS market. That's why I will stereotype the RPG market as I did.
Lets apply those stereotypes to the final statement of my rebuttal. The FPS crowd 'wants it now' because that is the nature of the genre. Constant movement, action, boom boom, kablooey, respawn, reform, revenge! They used to paying 60-100 a year on a particular game and getting what they can out of it and getting the next one. These ppl aren't used to, and most will not tolerate, pointing and clicking then waiting for something to happen. These ppl aren't used to games that grossly stack the deck against new players and/or new groups. These ppl ARE used to games with a proven track record of having a successful formula for balance and battle dynamics however they may differ.
I really hope that this new build addresses the basic flaws in the basic battles. Then you will see the a lot of the fanboys turn into 'whiners' overnight. I will not disagree with you that some people are just impatient.
If they won't gear it for the FPS enthusiast, then in 2-3 years they will be siting with nothing but glitchers and EVE people who lost a bet. I'm willing to bet that they have more money into the project than to just want the same handful of people who subscribe to the other game already. But, judging by the pretentiousness and self-righteousness of the community on here, nobody wants more people to play the game. People just want to be bottlefed some weak way of extending their little larry alter-egos. |
