And? most will comeback eventually. And then they'll leave again, and comeback, and leave, and comeback. This is the cycle of console games. You can't expect people to want to play dust 24/7 364 days a year for 10 years. |

Orin the Freak wrote:Cat Merc, you're not seeing the big picture. Most people on these forums will stick around long-term. Anyone who doesn't will potentially come back every once in a while (maybe only every major patch), and check in on their characters. if they don't, oh well. A lot of people will. And with each and every upgrade/update, more will come. Sure numbers will taper off, and we'll have slow "seasons", but the thing about DUST, just as in EVE, it's a perpetual world. It's evolving, and CONSTANTLY changing. You leave one day, say you're done with this game. Say you leave the first week of uprising. it's too confusing. Everyone is fighting over planets, etc.
Then, you hear about a new release this winter. You figure, what the heck, you have some free time. You come back, and your old corp is now one of the major land holders in the game, several corps have fallen, or settled/merged into larger alliances, and in general, it's a whole new meta game.
No. not everyone is interested in meta. In fact, there are just a LOT of shallow people who take everything at face value. we call those people "COD players". Take everything game-by-game, nothing sticks except XP and KDR. There is no real weight behind anything you do.
This is why EVE/DUST is different. It's a much deeper meta game. Even though things like maps.. gear.. etc. takes a while to change, the game is still going on. Every match you play is a battle deciding which corps are going to hold more ground, and make more money. And even farther in the future, this could involve taking stations, and possibly even ships in EVE!
The goals for DUST are huge. and if people are too shallow to see that, then they don't deserve this game anyway. We will always have plenty of people playing. CCP will make sure of that. Pretty much, most of the people who leave because of a bad first impression were just looking for a new flavor of the month. Many of them will come and go, some won't come back, but then there's very little chance that those "flavor of the month" players would have ever become dedicated mercs anyway. |

Cat Merc wrote: Different markets call for different strategies. Also, different business model. On average, only 5% of players who play a free to play game actually spend a dime on it. And an even smaller amount pay 60+ dollars. That means Dust needs as large a pool of players as possible.
Look at what you just said. Most of those guys would never have spent a dime on Dust, why should CCP care if they leave? Dust is going to require dedicated players to work, not people who come and go. So a bad first impression will have a relatively small impact on this games future. Yeah, it's possible that some of those FoM players could have become dedicated players if they had a better introduction to Dust, but it's a very small chance.
All a bad release will do is weed out the shallow players from the ones looking for something deeper than CoD 2014. |

This game will be bashed to hell by reviewers and players alike, and unlike the PC market, the console market will just forget about this game and move to CoD #42134. It doesn't even have proper tutorials yet, new players will just be baffled at what they're supposed to do! This is a TERRIBLE mistake! You see those near future things you said you're working on? AFTER YOU FINISH THOSE THE GAME WILL BE GOOD ENOUGH, RIGHT NOW IT ISN'T!
Edit: Now that I'm a bit calmer, this is what I have to say. I REALLY hope this game won't fail, I really hope future updates will bring back players that try this game and find it lacking. But first impressions are incredibly important, and considering the average console player attention span, they won't even try it out in the future. Instead of whining like a sandy vageen, do something about it. Yes. Because I'm in control of CCP right? And I can totally talk with the devs who are currently in pub crawls right now! Isnt the CEO of your corp on CPM? Yes, she is. Now, go dry your eyes and listen to CCP Guard tell you the HTFU. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5xvkAPXB9c As is Iron Wolf. |
