i dont see what all of the fuss about proto gear is... its annoying when you face a full squad of them with the viziam lasers... but that is the nature of the game, you arent always going to be facing fights you want to deal with, the problem that remains is, 'what are you going to do about it', i see viziams cut me in half more than a couple times, i bust out a thales and start day wrecking.
case and point, i started out a match with the thales, trying to burn them to comply with my OCD of having my suit fits all end in zeros, and i posted up on an obvious snipers tower, and spent the entire match there... 42/1 ... thales is OP, stacked damage mods are OP, but several snipers knew where i was and were avoiding me to save their KDR and their proto snipers, one individual, whos name i can not remember(nor should i post if i did), i remember was running a heavy suit, started out as an advanced, he wore that for a couple of deaths, then he busted out he standard, wore that for a couple more deaths, and by the end of the match was all the way to a dire sentinel fit... running forge guns and HMGs the ENTIRE round... his response to me picking him off at least half a dozen times? he sent me hate mail, was something along the lines of "B***h come down here p****y"...
what i guess im losing sight of saying, just because you normally run your proto HMG, have other suits to change your play style on the fly if needed to deal with opponents who are using superior(or cheaper) tactics and higher tier equipment.
you dont even need to spend a lot of sp or isk on the alternative builds, a militia sniper is surprisingly effective and cheap method of staying safely out of range of lasers, forge guns, and mass drivers, avoiding proto suits, among other things. strongly encourage mouse usage, its easy-mode for sniping. -Advice: charge sniper rifle works best for the price IMO, stronger than a proto sniper but only costs lvl2 sniper operation, all you have to do is get used to holding the charge, i am not a fan of the tactical 3 round clips.
logistics suits are also great, slap together a militia logi suit(or 'sever' if you got the aur)with a militia nanite and repair tool. you dont even need to be good at shooting or getting shot to gain tons of war points AND contribute positively to the team by saving clones and allowing battle battered suits have higher chances of success in firefights. -Comments: militia logi is quick and cheap access to 2 equip slots, nanite injector and repair tool works best in the limited slots and a lot of people already carry nanohives, the sever or type-1 allows a nanohive or drop uplink to be caried as well.
a dire sentinel starter fit for new players, or a milita forge/swarm launcher fit to heckle enemy vehicles, you will be more likely to get that shiny sagaris kill than the guys still runnin their duvolle assault rifles, and at very least you have a better chance of making them think twice about literally rolling through your teams positions -Example: 1 point heavy drop suit, 1 point forge gun, 1 point grenadier for AV grenades, roughly 150k sp 40k isk AV fit
all else fails, if you cant beat em, join em, at least then you will have some smug satisfaction of being the new bully who picked on the old you, at which point the rest of us dont have to feel guilty about taking shiny proto lasers from you.
*disclaimer* i am terrible at this game, i make no claim to be any better than the newberries who try honestly, but i feel no pity for the 'high skill' individuals(read adv/proto users) who make no attempt to adapt to the battlefield around them. |
