It sounds like its somewhat close. It sounds like it wouldn't bee too difficult. I think they are considering under a sort of tutorial/experimentation umbrella. The nice thing is that they probably don't have to be so concerned about balance or tuning with it since it will hopefully be offline and it won't get you income AFAIK so it can't be farmed or abused probably.

I'm more interested in how the mode is going to be approached rather than what 3D model I'm shooting at.

It is a completely different animal. They are not opening up a Dust only player market that they will then have to merge with the EVE Online economy. They are going to merge the 2 markets monetarily first, then open up the player market to everyone. It is worth taking a look at the (e)Merging markets presentation. Basically the idea is to balance the EVE and Dust economies so that an ISK in EVE is worth the same as an ISK in Dust and there aren't any big cross market perturbations. They could introduce player trading and a Dust only market but it seems like they want to avoid introducing any closed and artificial market systems that would later need to be removed. But it is worthwhile to ask why CCP is not allowing local markets and trading to take place and develop in DUST as they merge the 2 economies. Their answer is probably that they want to take is slow and reduce the number of variables so the ** dos not get all **** up and collapse and come crashing down in both games. The volume of ISK that players are working with in DUST is huge. We are burning through massive amounts. Allowing a Dust only player market could cause bubbles and distort our economy to the point where any merging with the EVE economy would be disastrous.

I still don't think you are getting my point... Until we can trade OR until we can all do everything MOST of your salvage will be meaningless to you unless you are the boring AR user. But even now as there are more specialized suits, when you get a minmitar assault suit, and you are amarr assault spec, all minmatar crap you get will be....WAIT FOR IT.... USELESS....WORTHLESS...UNUSEABLE. So in order to profit from battle you will need your isk payout + salvage to be what balances out as 'profit'. If only 2% of what you get is useful to you, but the forumula for 'income from battle' counts salvage as 40% of your income or something then you will be really ending up LOSING isk at a rate of 30% even if you OWN the other team and get all their stuff because you won't be able to make use of their stuff most of the time. Imagine that you are an elite corp and you want to play against some average players... Do you expect that they will bring the proto gear/playstyle of your corp? What if you are all Amarr/energy weapons and they are all Gallente/Hybrid weapons? How useful will their salvage be? IT WONT BE. You will 99% rely on the clones you kill/bring back to make income until there is some way to make your salvage useful. Player market is part of making the core dynamics 'profitable' for mercenaries.

They want people to get on the game now and not wait for the PS4 to drop. Also, they dont want to split their playerbase by drama over which system the game will be on later this year. I think the bigger concern is finding a way for it to reside on both since not everyone is going to migrate right away and Sony has stated that there will not be compatibility between the two.
