Story is important to many players, and gets them attached to the universe. Dust 514 doesn't do a good job of explaining the universe and the story. If I only had access to what Dust 514 showed me about the New Eden universe, than I wouldn't know much at all about it. Dust needs a story section in the Neocom for story related information:
[Add the New Eden timeline with voiceover] This timeline on the EVE website does a pretty good job of explaining the story and the universe, so it should be in the game as part of the Neocom. It should also have a voice over, similar to the "codex" in the Mass Effect series; this really did a great job of introducing me to the Mass Effect universe when I first started with Mass Effect 2. I would suggest to create a codex for New Eden to put in Dust, but the timeline is already existing so it is less work, but if feasible there should be a Codex.
[Add a story event page] For story events there should be a page describing what is happening, example: for the Caldari Prime event, explain the story of why the Caldari and Gallente fought over Caldari Prime, and the story developments with the event, and its conclusion. |

good idea, i'm sure many people don't research games as much as I do when I start them, so this would be a good idea. |

Maybe providing access to these resources would help as well http://dust514.com/news/2013/04/interactive-eve-timeline/ |

Good idea but does not go far enough. Dust claims to borrow heavily from MMO RPG game style. There should be coherent missions that involve storytelling. I am not saying to gotta do those missions to play dust but it should be available to ppl that want this. I think having some form of PVE missions would work great with this. |

Bumping this. Kain Spero mentioned something similar a while back.
I don't play EVE.
In fact, I didn't see much relevance to my playing Dust until very recently, when we had the Caldari Prime event, and I saw a Titan wrecked in the distance, and fiery embers flowing through the air. Then my interest skyrocketed.
In fact, knowing how our battles were going, and how they were effecting EVE, made the game that much more fun. Friends in real-life, stayed and played with me. When Caldari Prime was over, my friends said, "Now what?" then they grew bored and left Dust, again.
CCP has to understand, many players just won't give enough of a damn to go visit their website to keep caught up on New Eden events... I barely do personally. They are not monthly subscribers that have a major stake in New Eden, to keep track of. So what's the point?
When things are going down and CCP is trying to tell a story, they have got to provide a news feed in-game somehow. Doing that will attract and retain lots of attention. Story and in-game news feeds, tells players WHY what's going on matters, and tells them why their participation is vital.
People were fighting Instant Battles and Mercenary fights during the Caldari Prime event, and had no clue they were actually in an event. When the wrecked Titan disappeared, and the fiery embers (and intense immersion that brought on) disappeared... they disappeared as well.
Give a starter PVE story, then provide general New Eden news on a feed in game. Players will be able to track events, and decide which planets and battle fronts they want to support from that information. |

I support this too. Makes it easier to see it in-game than trying to find a computer to read the news. |

Injecting nanites.
This topic is very important to Dust's future. Players should really enjoy, and feel apart of the events. |

Definitely would like to see some story relevance in dust.
Some neocon story section and/or some sort of linear faction based story missions possibly updating monthly or quarterly complete with cutscenes.
I do realize this would be a lot of work, however at the same time I believe this would attract a lot more of the targeted FPS audience. |

How about simply implementing an in-game web browser so we can make use of all of the various internet resources already available? |

One thing I didn't like about the trailer is that it doesn't really explain the ideologies of the faction, and why they're in conflict. I suppose if it did, then it would be a very very long trailer. |
