I was talking to my friend who I got to play dust for a little bit and he has now moved onto another game. I asked him why he got bored so fast.
First thing he tells me is the lack of a story. He says he feels like he is learning nothing about the universe of dust just there to kill people.
So I told him about the story development that goes on on the forum and in dev post. That is where you can get more integrated story. Well strait out told me that I do not want to log into the forum or find dev blogs every time I want to gain more of the story line.
It got me thinking.
I feel that CCP would draw more attention and gain more longtime gameplay if they started developing there story and linking it to the game console.
This whole titan thing. They could have put the videos in as you logged in or maybe even in the merc battle area a little video people can click to play.
You get to watch a short clip of what is going on and it gets you more emersed in whats happening. Maybe even make a news feed type section that runs stories about the mercs taking over planets. Have all this available to people right on their consol as they play dust so they are not missing out on the story background because they do not use forums much or follow dev blogs. |

I've been saying for a long time that more offer to be communicated in game because at least 80% of players Will never in to the forums. We need in game announcements in particular but also story info/news feed and some good cut scenes to give special events context. |

Having a news section of the neocom would be awesome. They could post the articles and dev blogs on there, and perhaps even link the forums eventually. That would be really neat feature. |

It would be cool for a news flash to occupy a small section of the marketplace menu to showcase significant events in New Eden, not just exclusively DUST or exclusively EVE. Also, I heard Eve has its own time. Clock please? |

After checking out a post in feedback about a news tab in the neocom, the devs stated in the update thread that they are "thinking of ways to utilize the neocom" |

Same here... my buddy stopped playing cause he got the impression it was just bros shooting each other -- went back to Borderlands 2 because it had story.
I would love to see a news blog or something in the neocom that chronicles the mercs story, and general news items from Eve. Some integration between the neocom and what is going on at http://community.eveonline.com/. |

Storyline? Because Bf, cod, cs, halo and any other popular fps' player base cares about the story? You eve tryhards need to stop hijacking this game, yall will be the death of dust. |

CCP will keep making a story line no matter what. They have some people that do that sort of thing. So there is, was, and will be a story even if no one ever notices.
This thread is about how to get that story noticed. Dust takes place in a very deep game world, but CCP seem to have some difficulty with the whole concept of "show, don't tell" that is one of the basic tenants of crafting an engaging narrative.
So "story" isn't going to change the game for the worse, since it is already there.
But I would trade frames per second for story any day of the week, given the current state of the gameplay. |

I think most of those games have a story.
Call of duty has story that makes no sense, I don't play it, but have heard people rant about people that should be dead being in next game.
Halo has some people that play it for the story, some that ignore the story, some that like the story but play the game for the gameplay.
I believe battlefield also has some form of story.
Just a news section on neocom with the chronicles, new timeline, and eve news linked would be a big help for people that want a story. No need for campaign like other shooters. Just link to news feed to ignore or read content already being made for EvE. |

I think you are preaching to the choir, man. After having played EvE for a year I am not surprised by this turn in Dust. The level of story telling complexity in the game is nil as far as I ve seen. To get some depth to the game you gotta read all the short stories in books and online. Any other developer would have hired a good writer (which CCP definitely has) and integrated the story and the game - just see what BioWare has done with its games - they are all works of art. It's beyond me why CCP has created a 'deep universe' and chose to leave it hollow. CCP definitely has all the piece in place to create a world with mature and compelling lore but instead of putting them all together they just stopped half way. |
