Since this thread has gone all over the place...let me clarify a few things.
Militia swarms and militia forges are not OP. In fact, on my THIRD Alt, I run a tanker and I shrug those things off all day if there's only ONE hitting me. When I try to pull out a Milita Forge on an Alt of mine to take down anything other than a sica, the results are almost always dubious.
If your free LAV is getting one hit by a forge gun, then you've done something wrong. Either you're thinking the free LAV is a tank, which it's not, or you're driving in straight lines on Manus Peak, which you shouldn't be doing.
I've tagged Mathena's with my 9K and with my DAU and it's survived. If you aren't willing to put some points into it, don't whine about it blowing up.
The LAV is really not a LAV. It's not a Light Attack Vehicle. It's more like a LT, Light Transport and that's all it should be treated as.
AV grenades are hilariously OP'd. when you consider the ISK and SP spent vs the damage done. How many players do all of us know that don't run anti personnel grenades, they only run AV and consider LAV's free points?
What you guys are all failing to state here is that the AV gear on this game is completely OP'd because of the ISK and SP inequality.
Yes, you can make a 7K tank with Militia BPO's. Good luck killing anything with it. In order to be an effective tanker, you have to have heat sinks and various offensive mods. Just tanking the hell out of the tank doesn't cut it. I've created tanks that can withstand orbitals and you know what happens? I end up sitting in the spawn because I can't hit the guy with the proto swarms that's chasing me. There's only so much PG/CPU available on a tank. If you tank it, even with Passives, you likely won't have room for a proto rail. Go glass cannon and you're sitting around 5k on a Gunnlogi. My Ish Proto Forge eats those alive in three shots.
The difference here is that I just took down a 750K tank with a sub 200K rig. There's a MASSIVE ISK inefficiency with AV. Proto swarms, which fire and forget, cost less than 80K. And they can four shot some GunnLogi's.
Case in point; last week Slap26 ended up going against me and three of our mutual clan mates. He was in a full squad and we had just the three of us. He dropped a Segaris, and we spent the entire match trying to kill it on Manus.
Between the three of us we had an Ish forge, AUR Proto swarms, and an DAU. His squadmates spent most of the game trying to keep us off of him. Eventually, with very little time left, we took it down. Here's what I want you all to think about.
Slap's one of the best tankers in the game, he's got all the gear and I'm pretty sure over 11mill SP. Even with THREE other guys (and we're taking PFBHz guys with lasers and Duvollle's) trying to keep us off of him, we still got him.
There's something wrong there.
A dumb tanker getting blown up because he was dumb is one thing. But I can literally scare off a talented and decked out tank with a DAU for an entire match. He may not get killed, but I have completely negated him. Just me, with a T4 gun, not even the Proto. For around 100K I've just made 1.2mill of gear completely worthless.
Now, there are some overall balancing issues...like the fact that Tanks can hit farther than forges....the Tanker spot on Manus A side behind the redline....you all know what I'm talking about....makes this obviously unbalanced. But all those things pale in comparison to the general unbalance regarding tanks and AV. If I had known about the Proto AV grenades....I would have never spec'd for Forge, I just would have those on a scout suit so I could run the tanks down.
Most of you that whine about things on this forum have the same thing in common.
You have NO idea what you are talking about. Oh, you purchased a militia Forge and Type I suit and now you're an expert on Forges? You plunked down dough for a Soma and now you're George freakin' S Patton?
Not even close.
If you don't have around 4mill SP wrapped up into tanking alone....don't talk about tanks. Because you really have NO idea what you speak of. I know this because I've been running an alt with around that and I still lose tanks all the damn time and ALL that alt does is tank. Now, you can sit there and ***** and moan about getting killed by one, but the fact is, if you haven't skilled for AV, then you have no one to blame but yourself.
We have a guy that doesn't skill AV, he doesn't ***** about the tanks, he just avoids them.
Point here is that for the massive cost and SP reqs for running a tank vs the amount of SP and ISK required to negate or kill a tank is seriously OFF and needs to be addressed.
It doesn't mean that anything needs to be nerfed. It doesn't mean that the Forges are broken. It means that Tanking in general needs to be re-evaluated.
At the end of the day, one magazine from a DAU should not be able to take down a 1mill ISK tank. Just sayin.
