except that sniping won't be easier over ranges of (pulls number out of hat) 700yards or so. Yah know when you have to aim for a specific pixel, just to hit that tiny head poking over the top of a hill....instead you'll have fat suit variation pixels to work with... |

I tried this and it actually works. The stutters are alive and healthy since the resolution won't affect hard drive speed, but in between the framerate is noticeably improved. It doesn't double, but I see a difference. |

an SSD will decrease the load times and texture fill-in, but it won't affect framerate.

This would explain why I've never have much frame rate issues. My crt tv won't display anything over 480p or at least my ps3 goes into black screen mode when I try to set it higher. |

the PS3 is a SATA1 speed device. it can't take advantage or the 6GB/s it can't even take advantage of the 3GB/s speeds of a SATA2 device.
the only thing a PS3 can use is the decrease in file access times. it's 12 ms for the deafult PS3 hard drives (Toshiba MK3276GSK) and Solid State Drives are between 0.08 ms and 0.16 ms. that speeds up load times and texture reads. other than that, the display is running off ram.
there was a good article about this a few years ago: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-can-ssd-upgrades-boost-ps3-performance |

Ya pretty much.
Sound / Picture (+ other random stuff) = RAM (512mb on PS3 lol)
Frame rate, sound cutting off = problems with how the system is handling these processes. Usually caused by programming issues with the engine used. CCP should have solved this issues and optimized it in Uprising.
As you explained SSD affects load times, texture "pop ins" (hate those)

DUST is a game that isn't as easy to stream as other games, since there's much more variation and spread of possible assets that can be needed. And I'd not really trust CCP has made graphics completely non-blocking in terms of asset access. |

Nice to point that out but the second most common graphics complaint beside FPS is not being 1080p.
Downgrading the graphics in a game that has ... a lower level of graphics than is currently expected is frustrating. However it does increase the frame rate. Even in PC games. |

It is also possible to increase performance by removing some settings such as turning PS Upscaler and PS Smoothing OFF (this uses some CPU)
See this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AN28MNDj6E
Dont know exactly by how much this improves your experience, however it is very easy to change these setting!

Don't have framerate issues enough to worry.
Also don't have SSD.
Prefer higher resolution over minimal framerate increase.
If you're having issues, this is a nice temporary fix. Hopefully it won't be necessary for Uprising. |

Except those that care, care mostly about the game play being improved, as well as ironing out the bugs having to do with graphics glitches and frame rate issues. I don't care about amazing graphics. I want what's known about physics to be followed. And right now, LAVs defy physics completely. |
