The problem is that most people (with me as an exception) don't use profile dampeners, so they aren't really needed.
As far as profile dampeners- either they work, or the reds I run into are incredibly unaware of their surroundings. |

Cool. I guess it comes from what the scanners description says. Its very vague to me and they seem to do nothing ingame, I'll walk right into someone before they get "scanned" and I'm always watching the radar. |

I've had this explained to me but I honestly couldn't follow it because it was in the IRC and there was too many people talking about it so I just gave up. This is just what I remember, or at least think I remember.
The range extender isn't going to make players show up on the map (technically it's not a radar, just saying) but it will make that little red chevron appear on your screen giving you an idea which direction they are in.
The precision enhancer isn't going to make them show up more either, it's just going to make the dot on the map be closer to where they actually are.
Profile dampeners do work. By using them the enemy's scanners will be too weak to detect your profile no matter how close you get. Of course they won't help at close range if someone looks right at you. |

I notice a big difference when equipped with a precision enhancer or range amplifer. If this doesn't work at least in some fashion it's news to me.
Precision seems to provide me the most benefits, because I can 'see' people without direct line of sight. Through walls or behind me, and determine where they are facing, provided my enhanced precision score is lower than their scan profile, and they are within my scan range. It makes stealth kills and ambushing way easier.
The other night I was hacking a turret and someone was coming for me, I saw them as red on my scanner before they got to me and I circled around the turret many times, always keeping them on the other side of the turret so it was between us, as I could detect them through it (there were no others around so I doubt the enemy was showing up because someone on my team was looking at them). I assume they couldn't detect me on the tac-net b/c after circling a few times they went for the hack with me still on the other side of the turret. I simply walked around and shot them in the head with my pistol.
The issue is that most suits - take the assault, which has a base scan profile of 50 and precision of 55 dbm, are augmented by passive skills such as dropsuit command so eventhough most people don't use profile dampers, precision ehancers are still beneficial.
Scan profile of Assault = 50 dbm. Assume dropsuit command lvl 3, so 15% passive bonus to profile. So, .15 * 55 = 8.25db reduction. 55db - 8.5db = 46.75 new profile.
So, no other suit except the scout suit can detect this relative noob Assault suit running no dampers, unless they are augmenting their scan precision. Scout has a base scan precision of 45db and can detect this suit inside of 25 meters, their scan range.
So, if you want to help yourself get the drop on folks, especially when running solo in tight quarters, either buy those precision ehancers or skill up your passive profile analysis. |
