J Lav wrote:So in my limited knowledge, I was under the impression that a mercenary works for people, usually to the highest bidder. I'm a little confused about this whole, "own a piece of New Eden" concept. I don't care about controlling a district, I'm a mercenary for hire. So PC sounds like a nice way for people who want to role play as a business man in Eve, but I don't understand why a mercenary would care.
Understand this isn't about Planetary Conquest so much as it is about the game in its present focus. I haven't seen anything about expanding options as pertain to me playing as a mercenary. Contract negotiation, setting my price, managing my assets and cultivating a relationship with repeat clients. How about fighting for a cause? Are these things other players want as well? apparently, these are all coming soon. Eventually, we will be able to get contracts from dust and EVE corps alike. Unfortunately, CCP seems to be going in a different direction with fighting for a cause, as according to a certain thread, they believe mercs should fight for the highest bidder. |

Current Dust corps are not really merc corps, at least in the sense the we think of mercs irl or in most scifi literature. They are more like EVE corps, and are interested in controlling space. In fact, as you you probably know, most of the biggest corps have very close ties to EVE corps and alliances. True merc corps probably would view controlling planets as a distraction and waste of time. The best trailer for Dust is where the contract changes due to betrayal. That's the gameplay I want in Dust. Ruthless, brutal, relentless. But until we get a contract system we're stuck with what we have. I'm sure it's coming SoonGäó. slypie11 wrote:Unfortunately, CCP seems to be going in a different direction with fighting for a cause, as according to a certain thread, they believe mercs should fight for the highest bidder. Unfortunately? Money is the cause for a merc. Sure, you could have Minmatar RP corps which only take minnie missions, but those would be in the minority. true, but I would like to see a system where if you complete missions for only one corp, they trust you and give you more missions or money, but if your a very successful corp with a good track record but act as a free agent, everyone pays you more and more because they're all fighting for your loyalty. |

That's what I also implied in my posts. Yay, we're like brothers, only i'm cooler! |
