I think the majority of English speaking countries will relate better to being Caldari because of the whole capitalism thing. Not sure if there is any race in real life that is enslaved by religious superpower tho. Much of the developing world was formerly in slavery, had their cultural identity erased, and had a religion forced on them. Not quite the same as the Amarr Minmatar conflict, but many countries like my homeland Haiti have experienced similar situation without the theocracy. I think it is funny that a lot of people seem to forget that slavery has been around as long as people have been. This isn't me saying that it was ok, though it has been a sad truth in the history of humanity. Slavery still happens today, it just doesn't get the attention that historical slavery does. I've had conversations with people who apparently believed that slavery was a new thing that started in the north american colonies roughly 500 years ago. It wasn't, slavery is as old as people and people of all cultures, religions and skin colors have been subjected to it. On Topic: Trust in Rust, capitalism is bad m'kay?
(back to real world) - The reason that slavery is so tied to the Americas is because of the cultural specificity of it. In the past, slaves could be of any race or ethnic background. Because of this, it wasnt as easy to generalize about a person's family history just by looking at them. In the Americas, this was different. South America had something like 40 different ethnic classes based on what percentage of your lineage was European, Native, and African. The United States had the same issue as it was assumed that anyone who was black was a former slave and they were treated as such. However, exploitation was a completely different matter. There were many cases that were basically slavery without the official label. The two most notable were the coil miners (usually Irish decent) or the Chinese. |
