Okay, simple idea, for those of you that play EvE this would be very simple, however, I want to give those that do not an idea.
Basically, my idea is to have Skill points be purely passive based, just the way EvE Online is. And make the rewards from actual matches, War points and ISK.
This helps the casual player (like in EvE) keep up in the game, even when they are not around.
Now, by doing this, you allow War Points (WP) to be used in a better way. You could make WP unlock certain perks or traits when you get a certain amount of them so people are still encouraged to play as often as they can.
I just don't see a downside from using the current skill system EvE has, since DUST 514 is already so similar.
As someone who plays both games, (EvE and DUST), I find it very easy to take breaks from EvE and jump on to DUST for a while, but I don't feel that way the other way round. One thing that I love about New Eden unlike most other games is the way you don't need to grind over and over to keep up with other players and every second you spend offline, you feel like you are falling behind, and to me, that is what DUST is like right now. It is obviously not game breaking, I love DUST and will continue to play no matter what, but I am very interested to see what people think about this.
Thanks! |

Thanks! And who's to say now i can't just check in every week or so to put sp into skills so i can get proto gear, then i won't play anymore because there's no sense of achievement. EvE works because you pay to play, so it's either you play while you accrue SP or you're just paying for no reason. Dust is free, so that would remove any NEED to play DUST.

Yeah OP. +1
Every week, same thing, in corp we all always ask each other: "Did you hit your cap yet?" "Hey let's do a skirmish." "Sorry man, can't. Doing Ambush because I gotta hit my cap first."
Every week same thing, "gotta hit that cap." It's annoying. I usually goof off in public matches, either experimenting with new fittings, or whatever. I'd like to spend more time doing that, and sniping.
Instead of forcing myself, to continuously run an AR in Ambush, just to get the best SP/Hour rate.
I have to spend time doing what I don't want to do, to hit the cap within a quick amount of time, just to do what I WANT to do. |

As regards to DUST being free, lots of people are going to be paying for the boosters anyway that can work, and increase the passive SP boost.

What happened to shooting the other team being incentive enough? I personally find Dust to be a great stress reliever when I get to unload a few clips into the reds running around on the map. |

I would rather like to see passive SP accumulation for allocating later in EVE. You allways have to watch after your queue... If you forget to extend your subscription it stops accumulating... Now it stops training... Yeah i know it is blasphemy, meh. |

Why on earth are you forcing yourself to meet the cap? even doing what your enjoy you would still make a good dose of SP, you may not have the best isk/hour but if your only doing the isk/hour so you have free time then why not just do what your would do in your freetime and let hit the cap naturally doing something you enjoy? |

I wish there was full passive, but it wont work in a F2P game like DUST. People will just create 10+ PSN accounts and either spec one into each role (Heavy, Assault, Scout, etc) for any situation or sell them in a year to new players for cash.
However, what they could do is add a more expensive Passive Booster for 30,000 - 40,000 AUR ($15.00 - $20.00 USD) that makes your character full passive. It's pretty much a subscription. That eliminates the issued with DUST being F2P, gets CCP more money, and lets people like me (with full time jobs, spouses and kids) pay to avoid having to grind 4-5 Skirmishes every night to stay competitive. |

What works for EVE is not guaranteed to work for this game. The gains it seems like you'd receive would come at a disproportionate cost of removing any sense of performance based progression from the game, something that is essential to a modern day FPS.
This is far from the first thread to suggest an all-passive system, and it is no more a better idea this time than it was the others. |
