I've never liked auto aim. It's like trying to shoot when someone else is tugging on the barrel of your gun (from my auto aim experience from other games) |

If there is a group of people right next to each other I've noticed that it is a deterrence to your aim if auto-aim is enabled. |

Just personal observation here so don't lynch me,
On recording from people using controllers that push the cursor it seems to smooth their aiming as the person tries to dance out of it it locks on and doesnt let go, it actually sticks to them, on Mouse users who jerk around their cursor instead of pushing it, leaving it on can be very nasty as ive noticed it tries to compensate and help me aim while i don't want it and this keeps me adjusting my adjusted aim that keeps adjusting my adjustments :p
In the end i miss whenever i tried using it, so its in the disabled bin for me, but for controller users it looks as if its a benefit, but less so in multi people engagements. |

It tracks moving targets to a minor degree.
It won't keep the sight on them, it just gives you minor automatic aiming in the direction they move. I noticed it has a tendency to not always work depending on the range they are at, and any movements from other targets will then modify your aim on your primary target.
If you find you can't keep the sight on moving enemies I say try it out, if aiming isn't an issue leave it off It will just hurt more than it helps. |

^ I use a controller and I turned it off after a month of playing, and ever since I've been hitting targets better, not just when there are multiple targets around, but in general. I'm not sure if it hurts more because you should be leading shots, or if it's generally unreliable. But it's on by default, it does SOMETHING, and I have my doubts that that something is anything useful. |

I leave it on, I don't tend to change settings I just leave them how they are.
Repeating what another poster here said, it helps stick your aim to your target once they move/jump around to try to avoid your fire.
Other than that it doesn't initially lock onto them, you still have to aim onto where they are and then you have some minor assistance once your target starts to move about. |
