I am not sure if it is wise for ccp to advertise for dust in its current stage or not, but my job requires me to go to right around 10 customer's houses a day and everytime I see a PS3 I mention to them if they have played Dust 514, out of the hundreds of gamers I have asked so far if they have played it , only about maybe 10 have played it or just heard of it, the rest asked me what it was and how much it was to buy. So I recommend to every customer I have who has a ps3 to atleast try the game and try to stick with it because there is a learning curve,so I try to get more players into Dust.
The point of this is not too many people know about dust yet, so when should the advertising begin, right after the summer release? More people need to get into dust for it to survive, and I for one, want to see dust alive and kicking in ten years. |

Not that many knew about Eve either but it was able to flourish. The key is not about direct marketing like you are use to from companies like EA, Microsoft, Ubisoft, etc. For CCP, traditional marketing helps, but not for the long term. Eve Online depended heavily on word of mouth and the occasional shenanigans from within the game. TV commercials are just too expensive to maintain for a long period of time for a small company like CCP. They only have about 500+ employees while most big companies have well over a thousand.
The key to marketing Dust is within Eve Online. Eve players already have a vast amount of connections with the gaming media like Kotaku, Gamasutra, Ten Ton Hammer, and various others. If Dust 514 becomes successful and CCP manages to play their cards right, then the media will know about it.
But for now, it's best for Dust to stay under the radar and slowly develop from there. |

Don't advertise dust in its current state you will only alienate them from a game that is still deep in beta |

Especially after that one... *shutters*... so-called reviewer who didn't know what he was talking about. |

Fine by me. Too many people already don't understand what dust is expected to become. More advertising will only add to the false perception of the game. |

Even if a game is finished, the advertising doesn't always match the game. When a company invests more money (cough-EA-cough) in advertising then they would with the content, then you'll know the game is crap. |

Either it will be like the trailers, and players will be disappointed that it isn't to that point yet, or it will be shown like it is now, and people will be saying it's an arcade shooter (heard it said about dust a few times now) |

Dust won't be like the trailers for years. It is nowhere near what was talked about last year at fanfest.
Go and watch the 2012 Dust Keynote and have a good laugh, or cry depending on how important Dust is to you.

I was in gamestop earlier this week to preorder a game and I asked all the employees about Dust, not one knew of it.
Then I mentioned EVE and the manager said, "ohhh is Dust that game that's supposed to link with EVE but costs over $100?"
I shook my head and explained what it was.
So in short, yea....advertisements are needed. |

Now i feel like deleting them since i dont play with them anymore, they can keep playing their cod 46 and bf3 for all i give sh*t. |

Yup I know what you mean, some of my friends just straight up refused to play it(its FREE why not at least try it...), But I at least convinced them to make a character to build up some skill points so if one day they decided to play they would have a nice amount of SP to work with. But I got the majority of my friends and family to play it, and after a while they liked it. |

It's the same for me too. I'm not even sure how so many PS3 players are oblivious to this game's existence. And the friends I tell about it all refuse to play it because it's not CoD and they can't run around like a dumb ass and get kills. |

Once the game exits beta, it will be in a better position to be marketed and to develope a gravity that will become the biggest attraction to the game. |

Marketing upon release is really going to make or break Dust for years to come. MAG had horrible internal marketing which led to the current state that it's in now. In fact, I've had a PS3 since a year after release and had to find out about it from the back of an outdated magazine at the dentist. I'm not sure if it's a just a Sony thing also because it seems like certain franchises and IPs get pushed, leaving several titles slipping under the radar of obscurity at launch. I hope Dust doesn't wind up like that. |
